Amare had some real highlights in that game one. I really believe he is the go to guy on the knicks. I hope his back injury is not sever, I really love watching him toy with Garnett and those old celtics. I lived in phoenix for awhile and remember everyone saying that Amare would be nothing without Nash. I guess those people were 100% wrong, right? <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RB3TwQ8PUT0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Stoudamire can hold his own without Nash and vice versa, but they're better with each other than without.
I would say that probably any big man would be better with Nash, but to say Amare would be nothing without him like many in Phx did was just incorrect. Amare had a near MVP season this year.
Amare's FG% fell over 50 points and his FT to FG ratio went down as well. His efficiency did drop without Nash. Regardless, the question with Amare wasn't whether he'd still be a good offensive player. Of course he would, that was undeniable. The question (or questions, rather) have to do with how long his knees can hold up, and if he can perform like a franchise big man on defense and on the boards.
And similar to the Dwight Howard argument, are there still people who would rather have Yao than Amare? We could have had him.
Amare's efficiency dropped mainly because he took more shots (4 more) and played more minutes. Nash was a factor but not the biggest one.
I think most people here simply don't like Amare because they felt like he was in competition with Yao with that whole rookie of the year thing.... so when he had a good game or put up good numbers, the haters just said it was because of Nash. Now those haters are long gone and were dead wrong.
There's never been a big man with the grace and athleticism of Amare? Steve Kerr, you just made yourself irrelevant. Later on that game he compared Rondo's inside game to Hakeem's, just sit there and say the score Kerr don't give you're stupid @$$ insight. Don't get me wrong, Amare is a damn good player, as is Rondo, but let's not make them bigger than they are.
D'Antoni's a fool, and deserves to be fired, IMO -- Amar'e didn't have a single shot attempt in the last 7 NYK possessions in GM 1. The last possession was absolutely pathetic: down 2 as the clock winds down, and Melo chucks up a contested three a couple of feet behind the arc.
Hey you weren't the only one. So many idiots on here were bashing him saying he wouldn't be effective without Nash. Or saying his knees would give out half way through the season and his career would be over.
Amare doesn't have the grace that Hakeem had, but I would say Amare is a bit more athletic than Hakeem.
i don't know, we tend to remember champion hakeem, remember he was beyond 30 in those years, a young hakeem was a monster, particularly blocking two and three shots in a row. back in the championship years, someone donated $50 to the texas youth sports academy or something like that when hakeem blocked a shot. calvin would alway say, another fifty dollars to the texas youth sports academy, when hakeem blocked several in a row, my friends used to love calvin saying "ANOTHER FIF, ANOTHER FIF, ANOTHER FIFTY DOLLARS" hilarious
