he was very disappointing while he was in Houston but hi televised standups have been very good. I havent seen/heard from Dave Attell for a while but he is always good. the usuals of course.. Richard, Carlin, Eddie, Bill, etc havent seen a whole lot of the guy below though. I don't think he's getting respect. Spoiler
I watch older roasts just because of him. I didn't know about him up until a year ago and had no idea he passed away.Watching all his work I can't help but notice how supremely underrated he was. the guy was flat out hillarious. It's a shame he passed away before he got big recognition.
Couldn't agree more, man. Giraldo was not only the best roaster on Comedy Central, but an absolute genius... he went to Columbia undergrad and Harvard Law. His roast of Joan Rivers a few years ago was beyond classic... I still remember laughing like a hyena watching that dude on stage.
Agree with this one as well. He's really intelligent and he speaks so eloquently yet his material is so crazy and out there that he's perfect for comedy. His knowledge in MMA is first class as well and he makes the UFC commentary enjoyable. It's shocking that a guy that parties, drinks and uses substances like he does has his stuff together for the most part. A natural entertainer for sure. Rep to you and MourningWood for the Rogan and Giraldo refs.
1) George Carlin - Mitch Hedberg - Ron White - Dave Chappelle - Maria Bamford (gonna get a lot of flak for this one) - Lewis Black - Dave Attell - Redd Foxx (most under-rated imo) - Chris Rock
I liked him the first couple of times I saw him when he first came out but he recycles a lot of his material and the stuff he does incognito is routine as well. Example 1 ) picks out random minority (not hard to do in his crowd) and asks him his name. Guy answers with Arabic, or Indian name and he's like duhh (inserts joke) obvious your name is that.... If the guy answers with an American name Russell acts surprised (inserts joke) and asks him if that's his real name. He's talented no doubt and that's why I expect more from him instead of repeating what he always does. I guess what I'm trying to say is he's super funny (especially if you've never seen him before) but he needs to be more versatile.
I consider Mitch to be well known. He's king of the non-story type comedy. Just hilarious one-liners. Am I wrong in this assumption?
I was kind of spoiled in watching alot of good standup for free at UCB Theatre early on when I first really enjoyed watching live comedy. I used to watch Aziz at UCB Theatre on Sunday nights for free back in 2004 and 2005. He was hilarious then, but mainly just used alot of video in his act. Also was familiar with the great work of Todd Barry. Very under appreciated NYC comedian out there. Zach Galianfianakis also passed by a few times and so did Jim Gaffigan. I never really found the allure of NYC underground comic legend Eugene Mirman, but all the other comics loved him. He seemed to be a comics comic. He seemed like he was drunk almost every time I saw him perform. A newer comic on the UCB Theatre scene is Hannibal Burress. He has some really great deadpan humour. It kind of feels like a rip off going to comedy shows at places like the Improv where you are made to spend like 20 USD every time you show up not even including the ticket. UCB Theatre for the most part is free since alot of veteran and up and coming comics use that place to try out new material. But I do understand the economics of the comedy business and why they sometimes require the up sell in alot of the bigger comic venues.
Need 2 comedians identified. I've head them on XM quite a bit but don't know their names. Both do impressions of their mother. One specifically quotes her saying "you lil b*stard" a lot. Anyone know who they are?
