yes, i know there's a thread in the hangout

    <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/l55jZclGDsI?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/l55jZclGDsI?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

I find it ridiculous that people personally blamed obama on this decision like he isn't dealing with bigger issues

Is that testy? Sounds like a reasonable request to me.

Sounds like the reporter was being a disrespectful ass to the CiC.

From reading the title, I thought the Angry Buddist finally decided to make his thoughts known to the President.

This is probably one of the reasons why I could never go into elected office. It would be very hard to maintain your composure with reporters and other people getting in your face all the time.

Only an ape would challenge a Texas journalist like that. Is Obama even a US citizen? He should go back to Kenya, where that kind of thing may be all right. He probably doesn't even believe in Jesus. Commie!

Did I cover all current talking points? Probably not.

I don't know about "personally" blaming him, but he certainly could have made it happen if he so chose.

Given the changes he has made to NASA and the space program (privatizing, etc), given that 3/4 of the shuttles went to two solidly Democratic states and one swing state, given that Texas and its solidly red opposition to Obama and the Dems was snubbed, given the entire middle of the nation that the Repubs go on and on about was left out of the "Ima go visit the shuttle" maximizing-visitor-potential plan, yeah: it smells damn fishy to me. And by "fishy" I mean textbook partisan effing politics.

There is plenty about the Dems I don't like, but socially-speaking, I'm pretty far left. I'd probably do like I usually do anyway and vote for a third party so there's really nothing lost, but this whole deal means I won't vote for Obama, whereas in the past, I might have at least considered it.

I too think the shuttle decision had to do with politics, but this reporter is clearly a jackass for trying to make a name for himself by playing "gotcha" with the POTUS.

That said, I had to laugh hearing Obama's answer to whether he likes Texas or not.

"I never write off any state and I love, uh.....I love....Texas."

    Gee, that sounded so sincere...

Yeah, put me in the camp that thinks politics was the motivating factor for this decision.

Regardless of that fact, not sure how Obama got testy.

I don't get the conspiracy theory here. Is anyone going to change their presidential vote because their state got a shuttle two years earlier?

If there are economic success stories involved, potentially, yes.

Regardless, political favors don't always require direct increase in voter support as a payback.

    It's envy more than anything.

Of course they despise us, we're the cream of the crop. We dominate agriculture, petrochemicals, energy, computers, aerospace, and biomedical sciences, have 57 Fortune 500 companies, once operated as an independent nation, have 3 of the top-10 largest cities in the nation... it's a land of many, many opportunities.

I missed the other thread on this but you guys really think that partisan politics played a role in the awarding of the Space Shuttles? Have you considered that all of the sites they have placed the Space Shuttles get much more domestic and international tourism than Houston and that the more people that see the shuttles the more likely it is to raise NASA's prominence and get more funding?
