    Good piece.

Adelman was brought here to coach a contender and we are most definitely rebuilding.

It boggles my mind that so many would take issue with Morey's actions. Whoever it was that pointed out that we should have gone to this when Yao hobbled off against LA was right. Les has been riding the Yao train for all it's worth.( too long) Meanwhile, Morey has done a fantastic job of straddling the fence.....putting together a supporting cast that could contend with a healthy Yao, yet with the flexibility to head quickly to rebuilding. Yes, he has acquired ASSETS along the way and will likely collect some more relatively soon. I mean seriously people, Yao has been done and organic growth(young talent and picks) with an eye towards the market is the move here.
It's not an overnight deal but we are well positioned considering the cards we've been dealt.

And though I have issues about the length of time Les held onto Yao and what it did to the franchise, I have faith in him, Morey, CD, and the rest of the Rockets brain thrust.

We've all exhibited quite a bit of patience during the "Yao era". Now it's time to separate the men from the boys. As a Rockets lifer I've experienced a lot of ups and downs. Sure it's tough when we're not in the playoffs, but watching a young team be put together, form it's own identity (ex. Kyle Lowry who is and will be this team' leader), and ultimately become a perennial contender is a sweet thing to behold....

Again, Morey's hands have been tied to a degree and now it's time for the wizard to convert all the non believers.

Adelman also REBUILT a no-talent team to almost making the playoffs. Imagine what Adelman can do if Morey will only do his job and get us a talented big man.

Absolutely...we were neck and neck with NO and Memphasis with practically no talent...and easily would of made the playoffs if we were in the East. Imagine if Morey will only do his job and get us some real talent (not cheap talent like TWon't and Thabeet) what this team can do!!!

    Morey is too cheap!

We were basically capped out when we went after Bosh.

    Yeah that Morey!

Cheap and not working, doing his job, just taking jaunts across Europe and the states having a big ole time.

No it amuses me that your analysis of the Rockets' current situation is on the same level as that of my 4 year old.

really? So you're going to tell me that this team is one piece away from being a contender? That makes you look like poor Charlie Brown getting ready to kick that football.

14th best record in the regular season.
17th worst record in the regular season.

14 games from being a top seed in the West.
25 games from being a cellar dwellar with the best shot at the #1 pick.

We're closer to the top than the bottom.

We need a big, long center that can take up space, and be an effective rim defender, rebounder (Cole Aldrich for youth or Biyomba/Enes out of the draft, possibly Chandler in FA)

We need a long SF that can score efficiently and play great perimeter D and great help D (Kirilenko).

We need to play better D.

We need to keep the same O.

Will that win us 14 more games?????

It will get us very close.

Agreed. Clutch wrote a fine piece here but if there were any "holes" in his arguments, this would be it.

Overall, I've been very pro-Adelman. I'm not one of those idiots ready to disown the team or hire hitmen to take out Morey or LA. It's just a fundamental disagreement and nothing more. Am I happy about it? No. Will I get over it? Absolutely.

That said, given that I'm pro-Adelman I can accept that the divorce probably needed to happen since things had deteriorated so much (i.e. RA disagreeing with roster moves/not being asked for input, LA pouting about possibly firing RA after the first few games -- undoubtedly leading to an "it's all downhill from here" type relationship).

Bottom line: I would like to see Sikma promoted and Adelman's system left in place (since Turner withdrew from consideration). We have a roster full of players that fit this type of read-and-react system perfectly. We have no "ball-stoppers" which means, conversely, we don't really have a lot of playmakers either. So any shift to a slower, more halfcourt based system (i.e. Mike Brown, Woodson, etc) is going to involve a pretty significant roster shake up. I simply don't think that's necessary. Too much change is not something I want to see happen.

Promote Sikma, keep Adelman's system in place, try like hell to add a shotblocking big with size and go from there. We can win 50 games next year this way. Rebuilding on the fly.

It wasn't that big of a gamble for Ainge when his buddy Kevin McHale was treating the T-Wolves like Boston's farm team.

Thanks, B-Bob. This is what I've been trying to say. And you articulated it a lot more clearly than I did.

Bottom line: Sticking the Win-now tag on Adelman and pitching it against the Win-big plan is not logically sound and doesn't square with what has been reported so far.

The Rockets were 17-8 after the trade deadline. That's on pace to 56 wins in a 82-game season. Let's discount it for the easy schedule and say, this team with a stable rotation and having time to gel can win 52 games. That's good for a 5th to 4th seed. Would you blame Adelman for thinking that the Rockets are just one more star player away from contending with him at the helm?

    from http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7529261.html.

this is exactly what i said again and again on this board in many threads. i have the similar view as morey. this roster is not good enough even adding a defensive true center. ra wants to tweak the roster not big change but dm thinks differently. i can easily predict the roster will be completely different in a couple of years.

Not to mention our pre-deadline undoing was our inability to close out and/or finish tightly contested games (mainly ones decided by 5 points or less -- or games that went to OT).

Everything changed after the deadline with Lowry breaking out, Dragic outperforming Brooks and Bud/Lee picking up the slack (and then some) for Battier's minutes. All of a sudden we're a new team that just so happens to be drastically better in crunchtime.
