Until Samsung learns to update their phones in a timely manner, I will NEVER recommend any of their devices. (You can rely on XDA but i personally hate using Odin for samsung devices)

I'd stick to this or the Sensation.

Yeah, my cousin still has a behold 2 that is still on 1.6. I remember Samsung said that this phone will be upgraded to 2.0 but they just complete disowned that phone now.

Yup, and they barely updated the original Galaxy S line here in the U.S to Android 2.2 (except Verizon Fascinate users)

If you're an Epic 4g owner, i can confirm you're going to get Gingerbread.
When? Idk, but I know ED12 is being worked on

The Fascinate not being updated is not the fault of Samsung. It is the fault of Verizon.

The Mesmerize on US Cellular is the exact same phone (model #i500) and it already has 2.2.

Galaxy S phones in Europe got 2.2 last September and are getting Gingerbread now.

Not entirely true. Yes in Europe. The real problem is CDMA.
Samsung had a hell of a tough time with CDMA galaxy s variants. In fact, if you look at the file system , you'll find some GSM ****. There's a TWS bug in the epic that makes your phone continuously look for a GSM signal that it's never going to find .

Also, you may argue and say it's not entirely samsung fault but in September 2010 when they launched the Galaxy S, Froyo was already months old and other phones were launching with it.

Im involved in the industry, i know a thing or two.

The way testin worked over at Sprint and Tmobile (not entirely sure whats going on currently with vzw) from what I heard is that Samsung gave Froyo to the carriers and they kept finding bugs and bugs, and they kept rejecting the monthly builds. They send the builds back to SAMSUNG and they send them back for more internal testing. The carriers are just making sure the general build is going to get a stable build. (and of course put their bloat)

Also, you can't blame the carriers for Samsungs GPS woes.

Here's a little something something for you guys to think about

    http://www.carrieriq.com/index.htm

MOST carriers use this crap and integrate it within their phones, it was a requirement from a few major ones and Samsung couldn't deliver with Froyo

its a "Network monitoring" tool to relay information from towers in regards to usage, dependency, and general stats

I won't lie to you though

    You're being tracked.

I take that part back. Makes me seem like a smart ass, plus I'm not sure if I remember your username correctly, i think you are too in regards to multimode baseband chips and tower stuff?

Just got mine a few hours ago. The thing is buttery smooth. Its got a good weight to it, doesn't feel flimsy. The IPS screen is very nice, they have a few video clips playing at 1080p and they are very clear. The colors are pretty vibrant. The pictures it takes aren't bad but the flash is kind of overpowering and can wash out the subject. The plastic battery cover is a little weird to pop off. It doesn't slide on it kind of clips on. It is definitely pure vanilla with a few TMobile add ons like the Qik video chat. I do like that since its vanilla android you can make your own hotspot while on 4G speeds. I haven't tested the 4G yet though. Very easy to root with Superoneclick. The speakers are nice and loud, but again its a phone speaker so I wouldn't expect it to sound like Klipschs or anything. The included Need For Speed game runs really well and the graphics are surprisingly good. Calls are pretty clear. You can choose regular android or swype. The touch screen is pretty responsive. It doesn't come with a microSD card. It does come with the DivX player and the movies play really smooth. I noticed there's some DRM management on it so hopefully the Netflix app comes out soon.

Nope not me. Could have been BleedsRocketRed lol (did not know somebody had a similar username when I made mine).

You are right, Samsung probably should have released the phones with Froyo on it (especially since the European variants had Froyo when the phone released). And the GPS problem is on Samsung. I am not a huge Samsung fan, just feeling that Samsung is getting too much blame, some of which isn't even their fault.

I still don't get why the Mesmerize on US Cellular (also CDMA, same phone, model as Fascinate # i500) has received the official Froyo update (over one month ago) while the Verizon version is still in testing mode.

No earphones or HDMI cable. But I've never used any of the earphones that have come with any of my phones and HDMI cables are pretty cheap online. Just comes with phone, SIM, USB cable, travel adapter. Really all you need.

So what plan are you on? And what was the total cost? I currently have a G2 with an old G1 pan.

They have an unlimited android b2b data plan for 20 dollars. Then just add that ontop of whatever minutes and text plan you get. Everyone I know has T-mobile so I got the 500 minute plan with free mobile2mobile. The phone itself was about $270 with free 2nd day shipping. The rep gave me a $50 dollar instant credit on my bill instead of having to mail in the rebate. So total cost of the phone was about $220 after tax and credits. They can break up the cost of the phone into 4 payments on your bill or something as well, but I didn't really care for it.

Got mine for $199 at Best Buy. Pretty impressive phone but I still have to get used to the ins and outs of Android. It's very different from iOS.

Why am I not seeing the g2x on Amazon for $150? Can you please link me?

Edit: Found it. Google is amazing!

I am thinking about waiting for Mother's Day, since I need two phones and T-mobile might run their BOGO promotion again for Mother's Day.

I played with one for a few minutes today at the store. I have the HTC G2 and like it, but the LG was much more responsive. I'm waiting for them to offer it free and get one for my wife's line then swap mine for hers. (Hey, I pay the phone bill so it's fair!)

The new HTC Sensation might be worth waiting for too. They're talking about a June release.
