Haha Barry Warner is such a fool. What a fail of a question/statement at the 17:00 mark about when was the last time we advanced.

    Agreed.
I wish things could have been worked out between Adelman and the FO, but Morey answers are well thought through and very honest. He seems determined to get this team back to contention and won't shy away from tough decisions to get them their.

Warner seems really bitter asking all these dumb / overly critical questions.

The way he changed mid-sentence, it doesn't seem like its mutual.

Warner is an embarrassment to sports journalism. Yes, our media is soft, but asking tough questions is not the same as being downright condescending toward professionals.

That question about getting out of the first round and the room reaction was classic -- you could feel the entire room laughing at him.

Meh, that's a reach to conclude that from one press conference answer. I think Morey just did not want to speak for anyone but himself. Morey and Adelman are both professionals and pretty good at their job; while their is clearly a divide between them, I don't think you can say that Adelman has no respect for Morey.

completely agree. we have to keep changing until we have a foundation to buiild around to be a title contender. otherwise, stability is meanless. it's pretty sad martin doesn't know his weakness. stability is not he can demand. his big mouth may very well cost his tenue with rox.

Nicely done. Any photos of Phil Jackson with the Lakers? Oh, and Doc Rivers, too with the Celtics?

Morey thinks he can still spew his bs and everyone in Houston are still dumb enough to believe his spin and sales pitch. They throw away the hof and eight winningest coach in NBA history and he has the gall to talk about championships?

I hope Morey sells his snake oil somewhere else asap.

One has to wonder how lucky the Rockets will be in what is apparently the new strategy... losing one hell of a lot of games next season to get a top draft pick. "Assets" didn't work, not in getting a "superstar" player, or a top draft pick. The Knicks turned out to be better than expected, with that deal always being a roll of the dice. So what can we expect? An epic losing season, like some of years past that I can remember? If that's the case, I hope Morey is luckier than he's been so far, because I loved watching this team play under Adelman and I don't like losing. There's no sure thing in tanking to "win" in the lottery. That's the only sure thing about it.

I'm usually very optimistic about the team, but I'm not optimistic today. May events prove my pessimism unfounded. I hope they do.

    Note to Morey,

    you're BS'ing right now.

...but now that Adelman's gone, you better hope this new coach delivers something good or you're done.

    Deck,

I think for any fan to accept a rebuild phase is tough this team has had little downs in the last 15 years, in fact probably last season was the only season in the last 15 years or so that there were no playoff expectations coming into the season - before then there was and injuries derailed the season later on.

Now you are asking the fan base to accept consecutive seasons of not expecting much team success other than development of current young players. Its a tough pill to swallow especially when you see other franchises winning. Given the current landscape of the NBA though going the way of getting a star through the draft is the most realistic solution to do this. We do not have any prospects on the team (IMO) that can develop into a multiple time all-star/superstar. In the past you could have traded possibly for one (as we did for Tracy McGrady, Barkley, Drexler, Francis) but players now more than ever have a say in where they want to be traded to. Houston isnt in one of those big media markets, you never hear players asked what it could mean if they played in houston - you hear them asked what it means to play in LA, NY etc.

Trades like the one for Deron Williams are refreshing to see but NJ gave up a lot for williams - any team that has a star under contract for more than 1 more year will ask for both arms and legs when dealing and if its just a year then the player will have a lot of leverage in dictating where he'd like to play. The Rockets do not have that same set of high picks and prospects NJ did in dealing for williams

Which comes back to the draft - sure its a roll of the dice you may end up with the best % to get the #1 pick and end up getting the 4th pick, but the one thing this front office has shown has that they generally do not miss on their draft picks. Given a top 5 pick I have faith they will be able to select a player that could develop into that franchise player the need. The 2011 draft isnt that draft, but the 2012 draft can be.

As for Adelman, love him as a coach but as a coach he wants to win games at any cost which is his job. While I do not believe any front office will openly say "tank or lose games" seems like the front office wants a lot of younger guys (hill, thabeet, williams, patterson) to play more to develop at the cost of winning games right now. And the only thing missing from Adelman's HOF resume is a championship, this team is not going to be contending for one in the next 3-4 years so I guess the question would be this:

keep adelman and potentially make the playoffs every season as a lower seed and probably get eliminated int he first round - if the playoffs are not met then most likely the 9 or 10th seed in the west - having a first round pick anyway from 13-19

    or

bring in a new coach and miss the playoffs and end up with higher picks in the next 3-4 years and possibly get a franchise player.

in scenario 1 i feel after 3-4 years the team will have gone nowhere and while there will be the occasional moment that will be awesome..ultimately it falls short of winning a championship

scenario 2 is harder to go through in the regular season - many people will become disinterested in the team and who knows even if they get a high pick it could be a weak draft (like this year) the #1 pick in 2004 was dwight howard, the #1 pick in 2005 was Andrew Bogut - a lot depends on who is eligible to be drafted but this front office does its homework to prospects. could still miss the playoffs after the 3rd year but could be in a much better position to win it all especially if the team has found its potential stars from its high picks.

One can hope that the period is as brief as it can be like how Seattle/OKC lucked out in getting Durant and Westbrook in back to back drafts but ultimately this team needs to get back to winning big and not be first round fodder anymore
