The Rockets and coach Rick Adelman parted ways this week, and a list of candidates to replace him has already emerged.

The search for a new head coach will begin immediately, and Rockets assistants Elston Turner and Jack Sikma, as well as former Rockets player Mario Elie, who has been an assistant with the Kings, Warriors and Spurs, will all get interviews, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Former Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is also a “top candidate,” according to the report.

Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy is another name to watch, according to a Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports via Twitter. Van Gundy, of course, is under contract with Orlando, but should be become available in the event of a quick exit from the playoffs, the Rockets would likely be interested, Wojnarowski surmises.

I'd take Mario over Mike Brown any day.

Why would you be unable to spell your star player's name?

I would go for SVG first, which would enhance a chance to get Howard. It is a good gambling.

I don't think Mario Elie would work well with Morey, judging from his personality as a player. Anything in his coaching experience that would say otherwise? How's he going to feel about the statistical analysis? Will he be smart enough to use it well in coaching? How's he going to feel about Morey trading away the guys he's counting on to win? The old Mario Elie would meet Morey outside the locker-room.

I'm known for my coaching of the Thunder and my 94 championship run with the Rockets. Not so much for my spelling.

The point still stands, black. I have a contract extension through 2012 with OKC. How could the Rockets acquire me?

i voted alien, even during his playing days, i could see his vision on the court is good and he knows how to run the show. plus he plays with passion. i would give him a chance and ellie too, players usually show respect towards ex-players especially those with Rings.
