i went in 2004 and have no regrets, but i dont think i could do it again. i never saw so many people passing out en masse as i did during radiohead and the pixies sets - it was scary. literally every 30 seconds or minute i saw people having to carry out their friends.

Yeah that sucks. I definitely loaded up on water. This year they had refill stations for free which was cool. Without a doubt it was hot, but I loved it. Don't think I'll be able to go next year, but if I could I would.

2004 would have been awesome to go to. I love Radiohead. On Shipwreck's point, it would be nice if they had DVDs from each year with performances. Sort of like the movie they made. I don't see why they don't, I would think it would make a killing.

There is no comparison between watching a festival online and actually being there................................

Sitting in my room watching everyone have the craziest time of their life isn't what I would consider enjoyable.

Festivals are all about expending all your energy until you want to go home and pass out afterwards, its all about the madness and craziness that goes on.

There is no way that having festivals be streamed online would kill the attendance of the festivals themselves.......

You go to the festivals for the experience of a lifetime, to see great music, and to get ****ed up with your friends.

You can't have even as close as much fun sitting at home watching it.

i didnt drink at all when i was there - i didnt want to. i had plenty of 'herbal' substitutes though!

2004 had 4 of my top 10 all time bands in radiohead, pixies, flaming lips and the cure so i didnt have to think too hard about driving out from austin - me and a couple friends made a 10 day trip out of the whole thing and spent a few days camping in arizona and new mexico on the way out and back - even went to the grande canyon!

i had originally booked a hotel in palm springs with a pool - it looked most refreshing. buy my friend wanted to save money and convinced me to camp, which was rough. ive done festivals before, but not in the desert. after spending all day in the sun and 115 degree heat all you want is a shower and air conditioning - the entire campground was covered in these tiny little thorns that worked their way into all your clothes, sleeping gear and body orifices. from what i understand they now do camping in the grass fields right near the venue, but when i went it was by a lake about a mile from there.

I have not been to Coachella, but I've had two music festival experiences (One in June Houston heat) and had an amazing time with both. Sure, there were a few hard things, I came closer to passing out than I ever have in my life last year at Free Press Summer Fest, just because I wanted a good spot for the Flaming Lips, but I don't regret it at all.

And from that I've learned my lesson and know how to prevent that. They aren't for everyone, for sure, but music festivals are amazing to me and theres nothing like them. You just have a weekend of no worries. For me at least, its like there's no world outside that park or wherever it is, just awesome music. I'm planning to go to Coachella next year (And watching the stream made me want to go even more) and I'm pretty sure I'll have a great time.

For those who need clarification on Electronica... Electronica has sub genres... Which also have sub genres...

    House Music.

Dutch House: Usually has a rising beat with a huge loud drop, b****es love it. Artists: Afrojack, Feddhe Le Grand, Laidback Luke (does other electronica too but famous for D-House)

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fsX1qvRjTYM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Progressive House: Same rising beat but the drop isn't as loud and bubbly as dutch house but has more of an epic sound to it.
Artists: Swedish House, Avicii/Tim Berg, Kaskade, David Guetta

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PkQ5rEJaTmk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Electro House: The more common type of house, doesen't necessarily have to have a rising beat and drop more so a a catchy beat that's constantly being mixed with different electronic sounds.
Artists: Benny Benassi, Deadmau5, Carl Cox, Tiesto (even though has shifted more to Trance lately)

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/u-KqDVNowKU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

There's many more sub genres for house like funky house and tech house but they're not as popular.

    Trance.

Trance has a steady beat through out the whole song and most do have a rising beat with a drop but usually the drop isn't too different from the rest of the song, this the type of music people roll balls too because trance music is suppose to keep you dancing or 'shuffling' while house music makes you jump and makes the b****es shake their asses.

Artists: Armin Van Buuren (The number one rated DJ in the world), Tiesto, Bob Sinclair, Felix Da Housecat.

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uy6lmojkb74" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    Dubstep

Light Dubstep: Light dubstep has organization, it's not all over the place and usually has a fair amount of lyrics, has nice drops but nothing that'll make your neighbors call the police.
Artists: Bar9, Flux Pavillion, Nero, Oliver Twizt.

Nasty Filthy Dubstep: It's the black metal of electronica, there's nasty I-listened-to-this-song-before-I-stabbed-my-college-professor-in-the-gut songs in this sub genre... You have to listen to it before you know what i'm talking about... There's a lot of bass too.
Artist: Cookie Monster, Borgore, Datsik&Excision, some Skrillex, some Rusko (when rusko wants he's the most talented dubstep artist in the world, not even close)

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gTw4SRhY_TU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Z8HAmXLD8Mg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Drum&Bass: I don't really like d&b but whatever, I understand electronica can get repetitive but this right here is just too much, maybe you might like it, to each their own.
Artists: Goldie, Dj Hazard, True Playaz.

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fo-EaLgYA2s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    Love this song though.

    -----

There's much more sub-genres in the world of Electronica, it's crazy how much it's grown, even outside of Miami...

Thats just crazy how its grown. Thats more than twice the attendees from just 2007. When I first arrived in California 10 years ago its was a notable festival especially among the hipster elite, but not THE festival.

And the live stream might make even MORE people want to go. Since its a one time annual festival and not a touring festival, its kinda like a "Super Bowl" of festivals where people will anticipate it in advance and plan for it even if its shown on a broadcast.

I've always asked people to go, but no one ever wants to do it. I won't go solo, I'll just get new friends

Dutch house is only popular with people on shrooms and bodybuilders. And funky house is the most commercialized and popular because of Hedkandi.

In terms of pure house, you have music like this:

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AJJpDQfnx-Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Jj_1tO4r_kY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You have old school Chicago style house music, with a sped up bpm and a phat bassline (my fav):

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Sd0zY_DYxjE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yNSpLqmY6K0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Then you have the classy funk version which is by far the most popular thanks to Hedkandi and MoS.

This is all house that doesnt fall under electro.

ive been to at least a dozen music festivals including coachella and i always had a great time, but coachella is on another level as far as testing your endurance and tolerance for shadeless, blistering heat.
