exactly, plus whatever we could get in return from Scola, and a pair of above average role players in this and next years draft. We aren't far at all from being a championship team.

I guess everyone is a candidate at this point, but I doubt many people would get excited about Turner or Elie. Mario Elie? I know we all love the guy and all, but that would be a surprise. However, if Elie is selected I would support him 100%. I would think Turner would be selected before Elie.

YOU'RE SO RIGHT. Nothing besides our first playoff series win in 12 years, a historic winning streak, and keeping our team competitive through adversity which ranks tops in the league. He has always been near COTY material with this team.

You guys who think coaches are only worth anything if they win championships are the ones who don't get it. No player wins a ring by themselves, a no coach wins a ring without good players. Our team has some holes that are not the fault of the coaching staff.

This is a classic case of the saying, I'm paraphrasing, if you are in a hole dig deeper.

Now Morey has the chance to showcase the lottery busts that he traded for. He will have a yes man for a coach who who will be dumb enough to believe that Thabeet, Hill and Squid are all star caliber.

This scenario reminds me so much of the last last year of the Bulls dynasty. Midway through their championship run word leaked out that Phil Jackson's replacement was already waiting in the wings and that GM Jerry Krause and owner Jerry Reinsdorf have made a decision to fire Jackson at the end of the season. Their main beef with him was that he would not be a yes man to the "genius" Krause and his, it turned out just as Jackson thought, stupid moves.

Krause thought that he was the "architect" of the Bulls championships and that coaching was just incidental to the team's success. He also thought that the chosen one, Tim Floyd, would do a better job than Jackson and that Jordan and co. would be persuaded to return for one more run.

The Bulls management pulled this treachery despite the adamant statement that they all want Jackson back and that Jordan said he would retire rather than play for another coach. The FO did it anyway and the result was decades of mediocrity. Is history about to repeat itself albeit with a different team than the Bulls?

By the way, the Bulls fans thought that Krause was the "Master Sleuth" and that he had plenty of tricks in his bag and that he would be able to return to the Bulls to their glory days in a relative short period of time.

After all, Krause was thought to be a "genius" who knew all the stats and information to every known potential NBA player in the planet. He made overseas scouting trips to prove that too. He was a do no wrong GM and the fans trusted him completely for many years. They went through several high lottery picks and blindly thought that they were on their way back to glory. After all Sleuth was capable of doing "magic" and he was a genius.

Krause was fond of trading players like someone we all know, and he even picked several high lottery picks which, you guessed it, he traded for other picks ala "assets" over and over again. The Bulls kept "rebuilding" over and over and it has only been this year that they have finally gone back to contention status. Do all these sound familiar?

This historical anecdote has a lot of similarities with the current Rockets, and a bunch of gullible fans who are putting their faith on a GM who "can do no wrong" and who knows all the stats and info on players and anything basketball related.

The Rockets fans are in for a rude awakening. I hope not but do not say that this hellish way to replace a superb coach and the blind faith in a salesman of a GM has no consequences and has not happened before.

Can someone explain to me how hiring SVG may bring Howard here? I see that many are posting about this possibility. How did this idea even start? If Howard wants to leave Orlando, why would he want to go and play for SVG again but just on a different team? Just seems odd to me.

I was against the firing of JVG and I am not a huge fan of Adelman leaving either, of course we wont know everything on this story but

    a) if Adelman left of his own accord wanting to be able to win a ring then I am fine he is entitled to that and the Rockets roster as it stands now is not close to being a team that can win it all
    b) if this was a move by Les mainly to place blame on someone rather than accepting the misfortune that was once again injuries then its a silly move

I dont believe that this was a move made more by DM mainly because if Les wanted Adelman he would have stayed. DM is a smart guy if he wanted Adelman out he probably would have a coach or two in mind already to replace

    as for possible replacements

    1) elston turner - Personally would have him #1 on my list just because he is familiar with the roster as it stands now and knows the offense that was put in place and can continue that. Also Turner was always more of the defensive coach so he can probably put some stuff in defensively granted that he gets some legit size on the inside

    2) Jerry Sloan - i hate the jazz god i hate the jazz but there is no denying that Sloan is one of the greatest coaches to have been on a NBA sideline. his tough nosed approach can rub off on the young guys and thinking about it what better way to stick it back to the jazz by beating them with Sloan as the opposing coach?

    3) Mario Elie - The guy has been an assistant coach for a while and is just waiting for his shot really could be a good way to see if he can handle a team that rebuilding

Rudy T would have been great but he is too far removed from coaching and I think if he really wanted to go back into coaching he would have by now somehow.

franblinebury: If Adelman isn't good enough to coach Rockets what does that say about GM Morey who has built mountain of empty promises?

Right, we can pin not winning a championship on RA's coaching, rather than losing two franchise players.

This is a VERY good question. I like Morey but results cost Rick his job...where is the accountability for Daryl.

You might be the only fan rooting for a team that will suck for the next ten year (But with young assets:rolleyes: )

No surprise here ... I'd be all about JVG. He'd shore up our D and hopefully if most of our players return they'll still be top 5-10 in O.

Most think this is dumb probably but did anyone else think the glide might be trying to put himself in the mix?? I guess he would need some time as an assistant first ...

Rockets reportedly put together very long matchup reports with lots of data; Adelman, people say, wasn't terribly interested.

Speaking of Houston and advanced stats, I've heard from a few people that Adelman wasn't exactly gung ho about the detailed reems of data.

It will be a young coach, who believes in metrics. I really don't think it is going to be JVG.

    Overall, I'm not angry because:
    1) It's been clear for a couple months this divorce was inevitable (both sides), so there's no use continuing with bad blood between coach and front office....and it's given me a couple months to come to peace with it.

    2) It's all about fit. Rudy T was a good fit for a team with strong leadership that took care of itself....and a terrible fit with young stars that needed a stern hand and some tough development. Rick is a great fit for a contender, but he's demonstrated that he will stick with a limited vet for a win today than give minutes to a young guy that could develop tomorrow. As much as I love Shane, he had to be moved for Lee to get serious minutes.

What happened to the folks several years ago up in arms about JVG's win-only mindset that prevented a higher draft pick in a bad year? Because it's virtually the same issue.

    3) Rick's a really good coach....but is he a championship caliber one? I just don't know.

All that said......I don't know who they're bringing in, and I don't know how confident I am that it'll be a good call. I've said for weeks that I suspect that Les has a guy in hand. Maybe the open search is for show, maybe not....but I'd be surprised if they dropped Adelman so definitively (in March, it would seem) without someone already in mind. Unless the relationship was a lot worse than we've been told.

Too bad the Thunder already got the smart idea to hire Scotty Brooks.
