one thing i noticed about the knicks from watching them all season and this loss. they seem to be r****ded defensively. from the coaches strategies, to what the players are out there doing. and it's not just melo and amare. it's the team as a whole. their rotations are laughable. they don't TRY to box out. it's crazy. and its the same things dantoni had problems with in phoenix. dantoni just does not know how to teach defense. it's crazy.
You got to take the risk and call him on his bluff that he would resign with the Nets, if he was traded there. It's like the Spurs taking a chance on Parker and Ginobili, you just got to do it, sometimes. It's like Pistons with the Stackhouse trade.
i'm sure SOMEONE in his coaching staff can teach defense. defense is simply hustle and effort. but their defense was fine tonight. their problem tonight was one of their stars didn't show up and threw the game away period. you do not blame it on d'antoni tonight. this loss is ALL on melo.
or maybe those guys would've been better with melo than amare. knicks weren't that much better pre-melo.
Their record after the Melo trade was terrible though. They had just started clicking before that trade.
who said i blamed it on dantoni? it's just things like that wide open alley oop pass and other instances where they look clueless are things to put in the back of you're mind moving forward. the knicks will not win this season and i didn't expect them to. they're not built for right now, they are built for the future but they will never become legit contenders until they focus on defense.
Just agree/disagree because I don't think it was much of a bluff. Players usually follow the money, and he would have lost millions signing a new deal after the lockout possibly. I think this is why Morey still wanted him even after it was clear he didn't want to play here. I don't think he(melo) would have done that. While players are okay taking out one million or two million, it could have been much more than that. I think Melo knows how good the team could have been if they kept their talent, I think it was a legitimate threat that he was willing to resign with Denver or whoever because most players put finance ahead of winning.
How many times did STAT get the ball in the clutch? Horrible execution at the end. Melo had TD wide open for a three but instead decided to try to shoot over a double team...ridiculous. As far as the Knicks' future goes, I don't see them building a championship team because Melo & Amar'e aren't compatible. I still think they can win this series, but their future isn't as bright as Knicks' fans might think
Are you a Rockets fan? Defense is a lot more than just effort. Scheme and intelligence are just as important as effort. That said, without effort a scheme is worthless. I agree on pinning the tail on Melo. He reminded us tonight why he's no top-5 player. His slowness getting off the shot on the last play was off-the-charts stupid and arrogant.
Carmelo shot 27.7% from the field on 18 shots. And I just saw the replay, Toney Douglas was wide open for the 3 yet Melo wanted to shoot a 3 over a double team a few feet behind the 3 point line with enough time on the shot clock for a pass.
Just saw the replay of the final seconds. This was identical to a game in Denver where Melo didn't get the ball because he was strolling up court with no sense of urgency. He stormed off the court ticked off. This time he got the ball and failed.
Stoudemire, like Nene, had some jaw-dropping finishes at the cup tonight, but Melo's 3-pt pull around the 1-min mark immediately after Billups' injury, offensive foul on Pierce around the 0:25 mark, and then trey-bomb from 2 feet behind the arc as the clock expired were prime examples of this clown's selfish nature and down right stupidity. He single-handedly cost NYK a critical game on the road, as he got caught up playing "hero basketball." The team that wins Game 1 takes the series 79.6% of the time, so it was crushing watching that fool continually hoist contested 3s.
Right. A ONE game +/- doesnt show that without J O'Neal they coulda been worse at -21. Or it doesnt show that Big Baby held BACK the other 4 who were doing all the good work.
That was a terrible look that Melo got. He should have took it to the basket. If Billups is out you can stick a fork in the Knicks
LMAO....not low IQ player, low IQ period...Have you ever heard him in an interview?...he sounds like Magic
