Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time 4/10 Wow, never thought it was going to be this bad. From terrible acting to terrible story if it had one. I can't believe these idiots who wrote this acting working in this business. Black Swan 7/10 I'm beginning to think Darren Aronofsky is a hack and a ripoff director. Totally got his idea for Black Swan from the anime Perfect Blue. I think he's trying hard to be artsy to make his movie look intelligent. I did enjoy Black Swan but found it quite a mess when it ended and a bit disappointed. Iron Man 2 6/10 Pretty disappointing. All eye candy and once again the plot is exactly like the first movie. I mean they are running out of ideas already? Seven Samurai 9/10(would been a 10/10 if the action scenes weren't too outdated) Finally gave this movie a chance and sat right through for 3hrs of pure genius story telling by Akira Kurosawa. Now I understand why this is such a masterpiece. Wonderful characters and a very humanist story telling. Such a great inspiration piece that other directors use it as a blue print for film making. I guessed I'm going to have to check out more of Akira Kurosawa's movies.
I watched "The Reader" on cable. With Superb acting, Kate winslett naked and a ww2 subplot, I'm glad I viewed it instead of "the devil wears nada" on cinemax. I think they did a great job in the casting of young michael berg and the older michael berg. It was also strange watching Bruno Ganz without the hitler stache. It's all those youtube parodies!
Due Date - 4/10. When a comedy doesn't make you laugh that is not a good thing. Jackass 3 - 7/10. I got what I expected here.....except for the Volcano. It will probably take a while to purge that from my memory.
127 Hours: 8/10. I don't understand why everyone hyped this movie up. It was good, but not 9/10 or anywhere close to that...
Scream 4: 4/10, seemed lazily done and it recycled too many things from the previous films. Toy Story 2: 7/10, was finally able to watch this as it debuted on Starz over the weekend. Another good one in the trilogy but still under the first and third ones.
The first 10 minutes of that movie were very well done and sad as hell, probably the saddest moment in a cartoon movie ever and one of the saddest moments in cinema.....hmmmm I see another thread popping up here.
Anyone know any good "ancient" Chinese movie? As in the kind that is set a long time ago. Something like Red Cliff or Hero or Musa, which combines good story with some action. Preferably something newer... not those old Wong Fei Hong stories. kthx.
Hot Tub Time Machine. 6/10 - Besides Cusak, I don't think anyone in that cast is funny enough for movies. Got off to a REAL slow start, but picked up towards the end. I actually liked how it ended. Loved all the 80's references and the cameos...
Soul Surfer: 7/10. Some may be uncomfortable with the religious aspects but a very inspirational story, partly due to strong family (Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt and two nameless brothers). Decent surfing action. The Next Three Days: 8/10. Surprised by how enjoyable this one was. Crowe's wife arrested and jailed for murder, and he plots to break her out. Won't give any more info, but look for Olivia Wilde.
Love and other Drugs - C- Starts off well enough and Hathaway is showing off the goods left and right, then it takes a super serious turn before it heads off into standard RomCom territory and ending. Skyline - D- What a boring movie, FX were impressive but jeez it's just such a boring and stupid plot with no redeeming characters...
To me, Rob Cordry carried that movie. Cusack seemed barely there. Craig Robinson also had his moments.
The Lincoln Lawyer: B- Was pretty much standard lawyer movie fare. Ok acting with standard twist ending (which I saw a mile away). Still, I do like courtroom drama's so not bad.
I've had this movie forever, but I've never watched it. Every film junkie I know swears it's one of the greatest films ever made. Guess I need to finally watch it.
Blow Out (1981) 5.5/10 John Travolta is a movie sound technician who records the assassination of a US presidential hopeful. He finds himself a target of a conspiracy that wishes to keep the candidate's death labeled as an accident and to eliminate any proof of his murder. This well made (excellent cinematography, moody soundtrack, solid directing) movie is marred by a poor ending, incredibly faulty logic, cheesy slow motion sequences, and far-fetchedness. I'm not sure why this movie is rated so highly on several movie sites, in addition to various blogs and movie lists of the best thriller or conspiracy films. Watch "Rear Window", "The Conversation", "Blowup", or "Parallax View" instead.
Queen of the Damned. 5/10. Fun watch, but lousy story (book was so much better) and it had a really campy "pop" feel to it. Still, I'm not too disappointed - it was what I expected. 2012. My buddies told me I had to see it for the epic ridiculousness. It delivered in that regard. 3/10. Wanted it to end sooner. Heavy Metal 2000. I don't know why I watched this all the way through. 0.01/10.
