FYI Kanye just got on live 10 mins ago, playign Jesus Walks now, awesome. http://www.youtube.com/user/coachella?blend=1&ob=5
Went to Wayne's concert last night. Was fun but Kanye is soo much better. Not complaining though. Was in a suite with Texans cheerleaders. #winning.
Saw the Death From Above 1979 simulcast. Was really impressed with the quality and photography. I'm surprised a festival would do this. Good PR, but bad for engendering that "I have to go see this" sense.
AT&T Blue Room used to simulcast all the major festivals like this. I don't think they run all of them anymore, but I used to watch Lola, Bonnaroo, ACL, and Coachella when they would air them live. They are running Outside the Lands Festival pretty soon though.
I'd think that broadcasts can make events more "safe for viewing", making shows less edgy. Shows with the "indie" spirit become more commercial. Guess it depends on the event and who's doing the broadcast.
I disagree, watching the webcast made me wish I was there even more. Everything about it looked awesome. And watching in your room is not the same as being there in person
In case you missed it or want to rewatch parts of his performance. Here's his full set: Part 1: http://videobam.com/iScev?sms_ss=reddit&at_xt=4dac6813f84c9ae2,0 Part 2: http://videobam.com/veDOq?sms_ss=reddit&at_xt=4dacc6d8ea0b8e2f,0
Arcade Fire made the weekend for me they were outstanding. I left during Kanye's set. Death From Above were really good. Cee-Lo was a major let down. Awesome festival all in all, definitely an experience to remember.
so true - there are not people dropping like flies left and right from dehydration, if you want to drink beer you dont have to go into a cage to do it, you can sit in air conditioning instead of 115 degree heat and when you are ready to go to sleep you can do it in a bed instead of a dirty field covered in stickers.
Good call man. I totally wish I didn't go now. Absolutely brilliant if I understand it correctly Walter.
The point is not that I didn't want to go. It's sort of like the Rockets. I would ideally love to go to all home games, but tickets and travel make that unrealistic for me. I have to find some happy medium that works for me, between seeing 0 games and seeing 41, and settle for watching the remainder on television. If the television viewing experience is a decent representation of what I'm missing, I am more content going to less games, not because it's better than going to Toyota Center but because I get more value per dollar spent. When applied to music festivals, which I also would like to attend almost all of, I am more inclined to spend on ones without a serviceable, alternative viewing experience. I assume other music consumers will decide this as well. Now, I did have Coachella tickets. I chose to sell them (for the second year in a row) for scheduling reasons, not because there was a Youtube feed to replace the experience, but because it was the cheapest option. I don't think Coachella or *insert_festival_here* will be barren or bankrupt next year because of online streams, but having a live, DVD quality feed is a nice consolation prize helping to assuage the "I really should have gone" sense of regret.
