I've got the 14-year-old son of my friend coming to the US from a foreign country for a summer camp. He'll need to find a host family to accommodate him for a short stint, say 2 weeks. The whole purpose is for the kid to know some elements of American life from direct experience. The host family need to be open for communications in such things frankly in native English. The boy does speak some English since he goes to an international board school and his father wants him to be exposed in the real life. He would like to pay a fee if the host family ask. So don't always say America is going downhill and nothing is attractive anymore, folks. My question is how to find such a family in the Houston area? Is there any legal issues to pay attention to? Anyone with a family on this board happens to be interested in such a thing? I need your serious inputs and appreciate it greatly.
Just sent you an email through the board. I think I can help you out. I..... Oh, you said 14-year old BOY. Nevermind.
I would very well like to accommodate him, but he wants to spend some time with somebody totally "strange" to him, plus I am not a native English speaker. So.
I don't know bout you guys but if I'm a 14 year old boy, non native speaker, being sent to a foreign country, there is no way in hell I'd want to stay with strange.
Sent him to a homeless shelter, there are native speakers AND strange people win win, plus he will get to experience the side of America tourists rarely get to see.
I am flattered but my accent will probably make you cringe when i talk to you face to face, even worse than Hakeem's or Yao's
