I agree with Martin. This is not to say that you don't trade anyone-- trading is a necessary part of NBA life, and this team has made some beneficial deals (like the one that brought... Kevin Martin). But at some point, the number of trades, attempted trades, and trade rumors just become counterproductive.

Right now, it's probably time to quit messing with the roster (and the coaching staff) and see what this group can do (unless a ridiculous deal presents itself).

Here's what Martin said about Adelman:

Meh, the rockets aren't good enough to not be treated like assets. Morey's job is to improve the team and make it title contenders, not keep people happy.

Making people unhappy = worse performance = less wins = worse trade value = less chance of acquiring title contender level talent.

Whatever "package" the team was gonna offer for Melo or whoever would have looked a lot better if the team wasn't below .500 for most of the year before the trade deadline and some of the (younger) players to be traded were not struggling.

You don't make stupid decisions (like grossly overpaying Aaron Brooks) just to keep people happy, but players' happiness is very much a part of the factors affecting performance and, yes, the value of your assets.

I agree with Martin. Don't mind Morey trying to trade to make the team better but constantly mentioning that everyone is expendable makes me cringe and can't be great for team morale. Don't think there is a point to it.

Well, it works both ways. When they played like first half, everybody should be asset.

I completely agree with Martin. As a fan I am also sick of my team being treated like things rather than human beings. I know this is business, however, this is their jobs as well and regardless of the money they get paid, they still have a family and feelings of their own and it's simply stupid to treat them as if they were robots.

I love Daryl, but it has always made me angry at the amount of talking he does about the possibility of trades. I have no problem with letting the fanbase know that he is trying to improve the team, however he doesn't need to talk about it so constantly where the players simply feel uncomfortable and their play showed their uneasiness.

I also hate the lack of faith upper management has had on Adelman.

I said this before in the thread regarding the organizations disrespect a couple of months ago.

the NBA is a business in its own right, but you're taking away all the conformity necessary to succeed that way.

I agree with what he said. I don't mind Morey seeing everyone as possible assets, it's his job. Just don't constantly throw it out there and get in the way of winning.

Ditto. Trade rumors are one thing, but it's another when it's the GM publicly saying things like "no one is untouchable", "we're looking for star players", or "we've collected enough assets for a big trade."

Even the way we fans discuss the team as a collection of assets is influenced by Morey IMO.

Every player in the league are "assets" for potential trades but the Rockets this season than most used it to market for marketing, appeasing the fan base. Buy now, then wait for trade future trade to bring success. They didn't have much of a choice with no superstar to sell or a team at its best a fringe playoff hopeful.

Martin's right , part of being a team is those around you - the other parts.

I like what Morey has been able to do as well - I just wish he would ..... STFU and do it rather than talk about everyone being an asset. Leave some surprise for the other side of the negotiation as well as those in the orginization , treating human beings like currency is counter productive. (Thats not to say I dont respect what Morey has been ale to do for this team).

The lack of faith in Adleman is dumbfounding to me , this is the 8th winningist coach in NBA history. Fpr the past two seasons he has been left with no size in the middle and below average talent at multiple positions.
Morey has spent multiple off seasons searching for players who fit the system , finally attaining all but a true center and now we question Adlemans credentials.

What his players were able to do in his system is beyond explination - None of them , on the surface are near the calibur Adleman got out of each individual.

having emotional ties to players and treating them like people does not win championships...

Morey's job description entails him to do whatever it takes to improve the output of our team, if Martin is unhappy he could go play in China

Does Martin want Morey to lie to him and the rest of the team. Most players want an open and honest GM and coach. This team started slow because Yao Ming, Brooks, and Kyle were hurt during various times during the first half of the season. Plus the depth on this team was to young and didn't start to have an impact till later in the year.
