Here is 5 new scenes from the premiere: http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/04/13/watch-5-new-game-of-thrones-clips-video/
Just finished writing my review from last nights screening. It should be live tomorrow morning/afternoon. Here is a picture I snapped at the pre-screening event: Free food, open bar and Game of Thrones paraphernalia = win. HBO does it up right. Even the Boardwalk Empire screening wasn't this fancy.
No, this was different. It was a program that had the history of the houses, family trees and other promotional pictures. It's pretty awesome.
My Wife reads it, too. But I admittedly flip through it at times. I hate that any actor or actress that has been on SNL at one time they just can't get off their nuts about how great they are.
HBO confident 'Game of Thrones' will get second season http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/04/14/game-of-thrones-season-two/ I think it's a foregone conclusion. Can't wait to see who they cast for Davos, Stannis and Melisandre.
I can't remember off the top of my head how Melisandre is described in terms of body type in the books....but they HAVE to cast Christina Hendricks for her part.
They already talked about that on Winteriscoming.net. It would be perfect, but her contract with Mad Men makes it unlikely. Here is the debate: http://winter-is-coming.net/2011/02/casting-season-two-melisandre/ As for a sorta unknown, I wouldn't mind Elena Satine: Now for Stannis...I'm not so sure.
He's the oldest brother, and GRRM makes him out to look older than he is due to genetics and worry/stress/anger. Read his description here. Stannis Baratheon is the elder of Robert Baratheon's younger brothers. A brooding, humorless man known for a hard and unyielding sense of justice, he is obsessed with slights real and imagined. After the death of Robert, he styled himself king of the Seven Kingdoms as Robert's heir, though he has difficulty getting support for his claim. He has a cold relationship with his wife, Lady Selyse of House Florent, and they have one daughter, Shireen, a sad little girl bearing a disfigurement from an ailment. Stannis is a large man, like his brothers, with a bald head and a shadow of a beard across his large jaw. He grinds his teeth regularly. Here's the cover of A Clash of Kings: That's Stannis, Mel and Davos. Stannis be lookin' old.
They had a casting discussion on winter-is-coming.net on Stannis: www.winter-is-coming.net/2011/02/casting-season-two-stannis/ The candidates they suggested were: Mark Strong Richard Armitage Christopher Eccleston Rufus Sewell
I watched the preview thing that's on HBO on demand last night. It looks pretty good, but I admittedly am unfamiliar with the story/books. It seemed surprisingly more fantastic in subject matter than I expected, but so far still very real (It was only 15 minutes). I will watch it.
Mark Strong would be perfect, but he's all over the movies in Hollywood now. Not sure he'd be interested in tying himself down for a television show. But he could definitely pull off the brood nature of Stannis. The actor has to have the chops to make you believe that he is a guy that would only **** his wife once a year out of obligation...but not because he's secretly gay or anything like that.
I'd be good with Mark Strong. Although I wouldn't mind maybe a Tyrus Welliver (Man in black on LOST) either. And for some reason I always imagined Vincent Regan (Troy & 300) as Davos Seaworth.
