I would trade every ounce of talent I have to do what Casey Abrams did tonight. It's the first time this show really moved me since Elliott Yamin did "Moody's Mood". <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/L6Zgd9vL4hA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
today was mediocre for the most part. Casey was good. Durbin was good. Lauren may have been the worst...Paul is down there also. And Stefano. And Haley Jacob annoys the hell out of me and I don't like what he did today...but I don't think it was as bad as the others. He still might leave cause he constantly looks defensive and defeated at the same time. Scotty wasn't good either this time, but I don't think he's going anywhere
Tonight was pretty meh to me as well. James was good (thanks in part to Zakk Wylde). Jacob was good vocally, but he always does the same thing over and over again. Scotty was shaky on the vocals in a few spots, but overall his performance was pretty good. Lauren was ok. Haley was way off... like really bad, which is terribly disappointing. Casey... look, I respect the fact that he is different. The guy definitely has musical talent, but that performance was incredibly boring. I felt like I was sitting in a lounge with a coffee in my hand listening to some random guy sing a boring song on a small stage just to pass the time. I didn't like it at all and really couldn't wait for it to finish... but, of course, the judges went nuts over it and thought it was the greatest thing ever. Stefano sounded unbelievably mediocre for the first two-thirds of his performance... then he got into that crazy mode where he started over-singing everything and it actually sounded pretty good. He'll probably sneak through the door yet again this week because of it. Paul needs to go... period. Seriously, he should have been gone three weeks ago, yet he keeps finding a way through. If he makes it through again and Haley is the one that is sent home, then I give up.
Paul is the official "Vote for the Worst" guy. I think that's how he is still chugging. Enough is enough though, he's gotta go. Once he leaves then it really doesn't matter who wins out of the rest, but he's gotta go.
Scotty just seems to be on a whole other plane...when he does country that is. But damn dude hold the microphone right. Looks like he's playing the flute. My support for Casey has waned as I think he'd be a much better fit in a band than as a solo act. I think Barenaked Ladies when I see him. I don't get all the hate for Paul. I think he's decent. Is he a star, no. But I could easily see myself listening to him in a bar.
Haha I think the same exact thing every time he sings. I don't hate him. I mean, just like you, I could easily see myself going to a bar and listening to him... and enjoying it. I don't think I'd ever pay $10+ for one of his CDs, though. And I definitely wouldn't pay a lot of money to go to a real concert of his. But to be perfectly honest, I don't think I'd do that for any of the contestants with the exception of maybe Scotty and James.
This week was more along the lines of what people expected. I never saw the appeal of Paul and this is coming from someone who likes Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Captain Beefheart, and many other "quirky" voice singers. Maybe it was his ridiculous flower/rose suits or his insanely white teeth or his stupid dances, but he just annoyed the hell out of me. Glad to see him gone.
Finally. Good riddance. On a side note: is it possible to just scrap the season and simply have Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson come back and perform every week? At this point, I wouldn't be opposed to the idea.
I don't have a huge problem with Paul leaving, but Stefano should have gone first. Stefano has been hanging by the skin of his you know what for the last four weeks or so.
That's a really good point and it's an interesting storyline for this season. More so than any other season, American Idol has a bunch of niche singers. Lauren and Scotty are exclusively country. Casey has branched out a bit, but has had his successes singing jazz. Stefano is an R&B singer. Pia was a ballad singer. Jacob is gospel. James is a hard rock singer. In previous seasons, there has always been at least one guy that has awesome success because they sing everything really well. David Cook was like that. We saw him have success singing Johnny Cash one week and Lionel Richie the next. The judges have spent the entire season huffing about how this season has more talent than any other. I'll admit that I had previously bought into it, but now I'm not so sure that's true. It might be that AI has a group of singers who sing one genre really well and they aren't being forced to get out of their comfort zones.
this week, imo.. in tiers as always: Haley James Lauren (spray tan?) Casey Stefano Jacob Scotty Bottom 3: Stefano, Jacob, Casey (I can't see them voting down Scotty) Jacob leaves
