maybe it didn't have to be 100k, but doesn't the nba have to do something? i mean they had one of their most high profile players saying a slur on national tv. stern can't just be like "hey all you queers who were offended, just suck it up and take it like a man." even if it's said all the time during games, being caught on camera pretty much meant the nba had to have some sort of response.

maybe, but as of now, the problem wasn't the first F word, but the second.

no, but that's a hilariously stupid way to end up getting fired.

This is funny too. Cuz I'm pretty sure John Amaechi would school your ass both on and off the court. Even though he was just a marginal NBA player. Just sayin'

I wouldn't be surprised if there was straight up was no fine, and the league just reported there was. Remember - NBA cares... about its image.

I'm a little surprised so many of you are defending Kobe and blaming the cameraman. The $100,000 fine doesn't seem to be too severe, Kobe makes 25 million in salary alone, so the fine is just a slap on the wrist.

Agreed. What is everybody crying for Kobe about? The publicity hit to him is a much bigger deal than $100,000, which is chump change to him. Yeah, we can cut him some slack because it was heat of the moment, but for someone as worldly and media-conscious as him, it was a stupid thing to say, and shows his immaturity. All words have meaning, even curse words, and Kobe is smart enough to know what "f*****" means, and that it is very offensive.

For example, I will admit to occasionally losing my temper at other motorists, and have been know to shout "*******" "piece of ****" "mother****er" "son of a b****" etc...the whole nine yards.

But do I go around shouting "n***er" "spic" "guido" "nip" "chink" "Jap" or "f*****"? (even to myself) NO, I DO NOT, because I know what those words mean. And heat of the moment or not, if those are the words I use when I am angry, it really does reveal something about me and my personality and prejudices. Meanwhile, Kobe knows he is in public and on national TV, so he really should know better.

$100,000 is ridiculous. Yes he shouldn't have said it, but most households don't even make $100,000 in a year...it's just so absurd.

Half of American households don't even make half of that amount.

they also illustrated that if your not a f*ggot and say it, it gets bleeped. As I recall there wasnt a blurred mouth on Kobe.

I love how you present your whiny, hand-wringing sensibility about what is "very offensive" as objective fact. Just because you're a pansy doesn't mean the rest of the world is. Sorry you have a hard time dealing with reality bro.

Lol love the media. 'Homophobic gay slur'? Didn't look to me like he was saying he hated them. Typical media hysteria over nothing.

So if I call you an idiot, does that mean you are a pansy if you are offended?

I am offended by whininess and stupidity. Imagine how oppressed I feel on a daily basis, even by myself occasionally. And I haven't even gotten my protected status yet. It's outrageous!!!

You don't see how using a gay slur as an insult is in itself insulting towards gay people?

You mouth homophobic or racist stuff in front of millions of impressionable viewers while playing a game you're getting paid millions for, you deserve to get fined for it.

"People say that stuff on the courts all the time" isn't a justification. Professional athletes getting paid millions to play in front of TV audiences should be held to a higher standard than some street-ballers.

Society today is way too sensitive.

I called my short friend a midget the other day, I hope I wasn't caught by some CCTV camera somewhere. I would hate to be chased by the dwarf rights group.

Hmm, all of this talk about homosexuality seems to have touched a nerve and made you hot and bothered. Is there something you're overcompensating for, calling people pansies?
