Great, now the Goose Creek girls can go to cheerleading and volleyball camp in style. Service economy, largest job market in state, semi-controlled tuition, does we really needs the BCS bid to attract 18 year olds to our school?

Who are the large benefactors for U of H now? Did they get some of the O'Quin estate. Does John J Moores have any money to give these days? Is the Cullen family still involved?

Lol, the answer is probably yes on all counts; but there's just something amusing about the way you go down the list. "The Melchers and Moodys good for, what, 2, 3 mil?"

That would make sense if they weren't smack dab in the middle of town and average age of enrollment wasn't like 28.

It makes sense because that's the path to Tier 1.

It's already underway. 10K beds on campus by 2012.

I know a few might remember me talking up UH and wondering where the heck I was getting my info .......Well I'm tight with a fellow Cougar who has been connected there for 63 years.

Maggard did a great job with Rhodes and the Prez bringing us home. Don't worry about the funding. It's a done deal.

Now, as to which conference we will reside in ....Until last week, AGAIN (as outrageous as it might sound to some), I was hearing SEC or even ACC (I know...even weirder in it's own way).

We spoke 4 or 5 days ago about the shakeup of the Big 12 and how it might affect our plans.

The first thing he said to me was ...... " How would you like to go back in time ? Remember the SWC ? " and he smiled.

He had explained before that it was no coincidence on the timing of the exploratory commission and reiterated that it sure wasn't with this either.
Plans made long ago are coming to fruition.
Whatever happens - Big 12/modern SWC, SEC, or ACC .... our Coogs are on their way.
So take heart guys .... It's been a long wait and our deliverance is at hand.

Keep the faith and Eat Em Up!

    SEC? ACC??

Even I have a hard time imaging that.

Our best hope is that our big guns in the legislature shoe-horn us into the Big 12 when they go to 12 teams.

    SEC in 2020, maybe?

Not sure if anyone with interest in UH has been following the drama between Villanova and the Big East. Apparently the Big East had offered a football invite to Villanova...who was supposed to vote on entry yesterday. Well...it seems like Villanova is not going to position themselves to join the BE just yet...which leaves room for an additional team that the BE will *probably* need to add in order to help them renegotiate their tv contract, which expires in 2013.

Apparently, UH and UCF seem to be at the forefront of the discussions to become the BE's tenth football school. Nothing has been set in stone and there is no timetable for adding any new teams. There's some pretty good rumor-associated discussions at Coogfans.

That would be better for the Coogs than it would be for the BE. The Coogs aren't that competitive in...well, any of the major sports. Imagine how bad they're going to be in basketball. At least you'd have UCONN, Nova, and the other marquee schools coming to town often.

I still think they belong in the Big 12...but that doesn't appear to be happening any time soon and I wouldn't blame UH for jumping to the Big East if they called.

Houston has a ton of local talent. If they thought they could be showcased in the Big East or the Big 12, they're be more inclined to stay local and go to UH.

If Boise State can win consistently with zero local talent, there's no reason why Houston can't be competitive given all the talent in Houston and East Texas. I like what Kevin Sumlin's done there, but he's going to jump to pretty soon.

FWIW- we are still a ways away from getting all the funding done. Apparently things are still up in the air with O'Quinn and theres been a plateau reached for now...

(I heard this from Mack Rhoades at a dinner last week)

My first thought would have been that it's ridiculous for the Big East to add a Texas school over a Florida school, but they're adding TCU next year so who knows.

TCU makes UH an ideal Big East addition.

    Coattail riders, ho!

Not so. OU and UT don't want a championship team and getting rid of Colorado was definitely addition by subtraction. If the big 12 brings anyone in, it will be a team with a solid $. UH still has a little while to go in terms of attendance, and TV rations. Plus no one wants to see half of the big 12 be Texas teams.

That stadium looks great. I think the Big East would be a great fit. They are the conference that is really struggling. Trying to grab onto TCUs coat tails would be a big win. It's not too tough a conference either but it is still BCS. Way to go.
