What's up with all these fights and ''semi'' fights that we see almost everdyay now in the NBA? Did anybody notice an big increase this season?
Did you see what had happened before that? It seems like there was a past there. I was going to talk about how annoying Hollins looks and that I would be fuming if he set that pick and then laughed like that; right before he said "that's my boy" (lol) you can see that that's a nervous laugh, But then on last replay, I saw that Charlie punch attempt at the crotch in the very beginning of the scuffle, Charlie V you're a waste of talent. Go back and watch the video very closely. When the pick is being set, you can read Ryan Hollins lips as he's saying "GET OUT OF MY WAY, BRIAN COOK!". Upon hearing this reference, Charlie V went ballistic. Completely justified attack by Charlie Villanueva.

Villaneuva was guy, even while finishing up at UConn, you knew you didn't want on your team. Lazy with no passion for the game. Wildly inconsistent 12-6 guy that suddenly played hard in a contract year (16-7), suckered Joe Dumars into paying him, and went right back to being such a slouch that the Pistons gave up on him as a starter. 6-11 PF that has sunk to 4 boards a game, no D, and doesn't even show up half the time. He started the entire thing by taking a cheap shot at Hollins' junk. Loser.
Do you think English speakers pronounce every foreign players names correctly? That is impossible. They almost certainly screw up all the chinese players names. Or Nowitzki or Barganani? any foreign players name will never sound the same as in their native tongue. Same thing happens when our players go over seas. Every language has their own way of pronouncing names. So here in America we speak English so the proper way to pronounce Villanueva is Vi-la-nue-va
True, but given that hispanics are already the largest minority in the country they might as well learn some basic pronounciation, no? And by the way, I've generally heard Nowitzki and Bargnani pronounced pretty well. Yes, the vowels may not be spot on but that's because vowels in English are pronounced so differently than in other languages. But I've never heard an announcer pronouncing the W in Nowitzki as a W (instead of a V) and the GN in Bargnani (instead of pronouncing it as Bar-nya-ni) - which are mistakes much more comparable to calling this guy Vi-la-nueva.
Believe me, that's not the case in most Hispanic countries, mispronouncing a name is cause for ridicule (at least amongst educated people), now I'm not saying people will get it right, but at least they'll try to learn. I don't have a problem with poor pronunciation, I just want people to at least try. Unless you are translating the names altogether (Ex. from Cristoforo Colombo -Italian- to Christopher Columbus) it's a rule of thumb and of common courtesy to try and find out how to pronounce a foreign name. You can stick to Vi-la-nue-va (especially since Villa is an English word as well) but for "proper" pronunciation please check my suggestion. And in this case I don't blame you or anybody who doesn't know how to, I blame the announcers because they are the most common reference and it should be part of their duty to learn how to pronounce foreign players' names, that way they can save a certain Matt some dignity and pronounce his last name Haryasz --in its "proper" form HARRY-es -- and not Hairy-Ass as your mentality would suggest.
Did anyone talking about how to pronounce Charlie V's last name ever actually find out HOW THE ***** he likes his last name to be pronounced? For all we know he may have told folks its' Vil-la-nue-va, so yeah let's drop it and concentrate on the issue at hand! Why Charlie V is so mad tho?
I love it when shamefully soft players try to act hard. If only Charlie could carry some of that anger and passion out onto the basketball court. But then again, there's no need whenever you have guaranteed contracts involved. Charlie, FTW!
I don't think one can say for certain that it was all an act. How do we know that he even gave a second thought to who was around him and who would stop him as he tried to get to Hollins? With the adrenaline pumping from the tussle, in the middle of an NBA game, there's no guarantee that Charlie V would actually be thinking clearly at that moment. I don't think it was an act, I just think he was an idiot that happened to be angry with Hollins and spent the evening trying to find Hollins or get to Hollins to fight him. Also, I think most NBA players and especially those around teams that Hollins has played on would say they aren't surprised that someone tried to fight Hollins because thats what Hollins does. He loves irritating the opponent and is good at it. It finally made an opponent snap and Hollins was there smiling and looking like the calm one. No bueno for Charlie V.
But dude, isn't that like 70-80% of NBA players???? They love acting tough but we know they're softer than Charmin. One of the biggest examples we all remember is Carmelo in New York vs Wilson Chandler and Jared Jeffries. Melo feeling all funky and fresh until Lil Nate stepped up and punked him. That will always be classic. Anyway we know most of them aren't tough and wouldn't survive vs most NFL and NHL players.
Well, 70-80% of NBA players are smart and disciplined enough to not act like complete imbeciles the way Villanueva did last night. But yeah, I suppose that's probably the case amongst those that do choose to act like idiots.
