Same thing that ruins everything else, politics. I just don't want to believe that NASA would so easily $#!+ on the center that gave so much to this particular program. I'll hold off on judgement until announced, but it doesn't look good for the home team......or doing what's right for that matter.
So, if we don't get one, where should we all plan to meet and riot? I really need another TV, so we should also plan to loot as well. Anyone have a big truck to haul everything?
Puhleeze. The closest houstonians get to rioting is driving down Richmond honking their horns at nothing and everything.
Yeah, it's gonna be hard to get the people in my area to riot. All they do is run, bike and get healthy and stuff. I don't know why they just don't go home, drink beer and watch TV like me. Maybe if I take away their Gatorade and burn down Whole Foods they'll get angry and throw a brick through a store window to kick things off.
Answer is NO to the Houston JSC. Link coming. Oh, yeah, and Favre signs with the Vikings. EDIT: never mind, Favre is retiring. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/technology&id=8067440 MOTHER F#(*)$δWER@#^& DAYTON!??!?! OHIO? Are you EFFIN' kiddin'??!?!?! SRSLY?
Sounds about right. I f***ing hate politics. It's taken 30 years, but I'm coming to realize that doing what's right and logical mean nothing. Way to $#!+ on all the men and women who put in the work at JSC for that shuttle. Wow.
I was lucky to see one of the shuttles on the back of a 747 parked at Ellington field back in the day -- it really was an awesome sight. I can't believe they're not going to put one in Clear Lake near the Apollo rocket -- that just seems crazy IMO.
Awesome. I can't wait to see how NASA explains this to the widows/widowers from the Space Shuttle Columbia who so adamantly supported Houston as a site. "Yeah, um, we just want to thank you again for all the sacrifices you have made to our space program. We understand that you wanted the Space Shuttle to be where you live now, and that the JSC has played an integral part in our development as a pioneering entity in space exploration, but.....we're taking our talents to Ohio instead."
Oops, in my rage, I unleashed my ire on the wrong group. Either way, you would think NASA would have the right to give an opinion or a recommendation that the committee would take in high regard. Right??
Right. Unless, of course, the current administration has some sort of ax to grind with the state of Texas..............................
Rumour at work is that it was a free for all for any city to apply to be host to one of the Shuttles. Houston leaders aparantly didn't put their name into the hat until couple of months ago while all the other cities had been petitioning for 6+ months. Now keep it in mind that it is just a rumour. I personally think that it's BS and politics is at work here. Charles Bolden will be speaking on the issue in just a few mins.
Even if this were true, it shouldn't have mattered. Florida and Houston could have asked the day before the announcement and they should have had priority.
EarthQuest is coming along just fine. Wasn't expecting Houston to get the shaft, since they talked about distribution. Not really distributed fairly with two in the Northeast and three on the East Coast. One on the West Coast makes sense, but there is nothing in the middle.
