Love hayes story and game maturation, but the rox cant tie up money on him if they want a shot at howard and williams. He's going to be ufa and is worth mle or close.
I'm sure Morey can fix that by hinting that Chuck has an injury that needs to be checked out before they will make him an offer.
I would not be surprised to see Chuck add a mid-range J, maybe even a 3-ball, to his arsenal. Why not? After seeing his improvement at the free throw line, I believe Mr. Hayes can do whatever he sets his mind to doing. We do need his D and heart on the floor. Pay the man.
I know this to be true: If this team can continue to have what Chuck brings to the table, but with the second unit, the Rockets will be a SERIOUS contender.
I drool at the though of Chuck finishing games at PF playing alongside a good defensive Center, specially when we only need stops. Coming into this season most of us though of Chuck's ideal role as a situational back-up playing few minutes a game if at all. Now, I wouldn't mind if he started at PF next season, knowing our glut there, he makes for a legit 25-30 mins back-up. The great thing is that the Modesto Monster makes most of our "bigs" expendable.
My guess is they'll sign Hayes to a contract similar to what Udonis Haslem got in Miami: 5 year, $20 million. Haslem had some full MLE offers but gave Miami a hometown discount to stay. It sounds like from the article that Hayes may do the same. Besides, doesnt' Hayes still have a Chinese shoe contract that probably only pays him if he stays a Rocket?
Craig Ackerman weighs in on the Chuck Hayes conversation: http://houston.cbslocal.com/2011/04/11/will-the-rockets-keep-hayes/
Of course he'll be back, he anchored one of the top starting lineups in the NBA. We just need to go out and get him a suitable backup instead of Hill and Miller...
Chuck has improved so much over time, and especially this season. He's even developed a really solid passing game. I'd be OK with Hayes and Patterson at the 4 and move out the rest of the power forwards / centers to upgrade the 5. Easier said than done, I know. Love Scola, but something will have to give anyway, and I don't think that something should be Chuck.
It's obvious that any Rocket fan would want him to come back, but I'm kinda curious to see what teams make him offers.
If Yao goes, then he is the last remnant of the Van Gundy era. it's amazing how he made himself better all these past years. I hope he stays with us till he retires
not too many professional players that would react to the contract situation like chuck has. He needs to stay with this organization as a player. Then our new bigs coach.
I'd love to see Chuck remain a Rocket. He's become one of my fav players not just on the Rockets. My favorite players are usually the best passers in the league like Penny, Tmac, Brent Barry, etc. Chuck is not at the level of passing as those other guys, but I still feel like he's underrated in that category. Its more IQ than passing, but its passing all the same, and really its the IQ that I appreciate in all of them. That said, I wouldnt be opposed to an upgrade, but it has to be an upgrade not just someone who is taller.
