What's a good charity to get involved in? At some point you have so much money you don't know what to do with it and you want to help out those less fortunate.
Workshop Houston. Within that they have the Third Ward Bike shop. Awesome program I heard about a few months back. I've volunteered once but plan on becoming a regular.
there's candie's foundation if you want to help out Bristol Palin a bit other wise, and really, look at the AKF.org and akdn.org
I hope I can become a baller and go undercover like Secret Millionaire except I wouldn't do it for TV.
There's lots out there. There are obviously the big ones (Red Cross, Oxfam, Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity and United Way.) If you are looking to donate and get involved in the longterm consider what your interests and background and find a charity based on that. Also don't forget to do some background research on a charity before you get involved in it especially around a disaster. A lot of scams have cropped up around big disasters.
To that end, you can go to guidestar.org and find out information about every legitimate charity including their tax returns for the past 3 years. To me it is a good source to see how much of their money actually goes to the charitable parts. Obviously, some salaried folks are needed, but you should make sure it is not excessive. I also like to make sure that the board receives little to no compensation.
I would avoid United Way, as they take a cut of 15-20% of your donated money. It's better to donate your money right to the charities you want.
Donate to the American Cancer Society. I am currently involved with them and here is the link to donate! Thanks for any contribution http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY11National?px=20188500&pg=personal&fr_id=32371
