Not to mention that they're citing Todd McShay as a source. But Bowers is a Top 3 talent and I don't think he'll fall to #11 unless his knee really doesn't check out before the draft. With that said, the Texans have fully shown that they're are capable of making a move like this IMO.

Prince and Austin would be a complete win in the 1st and 2nd.

[rquoter]Jeff Risdon/RealGM- I had the chance to spend some time with an AFC scout recently. Rather than discuss individual players, he agreed to do an alternating-pick mock draft and provide some commentary. Over the course of about 90 minutes at a restaurant just outside Hobby Airport in Houston late last week, we got through two rounds.

I took the odd numbered picks, in part so the scout could pick for his own team in the 1st round.

    ...

    11. Houston Texans: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska.

Scout’s take: “I like it for Wade Phillips (new Texans DC) if he moves him to safety. They thought Kareem Jackson couldn’t cover! Wait til they see this kid try to turn and run with Andre Johnson in practice. He’ll be at safety by the end of the first week.”

    42. Houston Texans: Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy. Scout’s take: “I know you (meaning me) like to compare him to Percy Harvin, but I see a smaller Reggie Bush.”

Interesting he would say that about Prince. Doesn't seem he's too impressed with his cover skills. He can't be worse than Jackson.

Prince is a much more fluid and natural athlete than Kareem.

So he won't fall down every other play?

Or will he look better (more fluid, more natural) than Kareem as he gets beat down by NFL receivers.

just getting back into football and have a dumb draft question - in basketball it's usually preached that you take the best talent available, rather than draft based on need. It seems to be the opposite in football though - is that correct ?

Most teams preach that in football as well, but to a lesser degree. If you're the 49ers or the Cardinals (both teams desperately need a QB) with a top five pick, you might pass up a more sure-fire pick to take a QB. I don't know statistics, but I'd guess that more top ten pick busts are QBs than anything.

Likewise, if a team has holes at LB, D-line, and secondary (like the Texans), they are probably going to take the best available among those positions even if their is a better prospect (say WR like Julio Jones) on the board. Basically, if you're in position to truly take the "best available", that means you've done a good job of building your team and have relatively minor holes.

I can't express how happy I would be to land Rahim Moore in the second round. In the first round, I'll take Quinn or Bowers in a heart beat.

If we end up going with a secondary player in the first round (Though I still think that's unlikely) I wouldn't mind seeing Wade grab Marvin Austin in round 2.

It's kinda funny how much Prince gets dogged by scouts. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall far in the first round.

    My ideal draft:

    Rd 1 -- Robert Quinn
    Rd 2 -- Marvin Austin
    Rd 3 -- Curtis Brown

Not that anything ESPN says means anything, but I haven't seen Wilkerson go anywhere near that high. I would hope we'd trade down and get something else if we're going to take someone projected that low.

And Lance Z had Houston going to us at #11 in one of his mocks. Talk about a huge disparity.

We managed to select Kareem about 10 picks higher than most mocks had him going so I wouldn't be all that suprised if we reached for another prospect.

Funny thing about Wilkerson is that Casserly just yesterday said on "Path to the Draft" that he is the 2nd most overrated player in the 1st round. This really makes me wonder if we should go ahead and take Wilkerson since it's the same guy who passed on Derrick Johnson and Jammal Brown to take Travis Johnson. I remember reading somewhere that Casserly believed Brown would never be a starting OT in the NFL.

Prince shouldn't make it past the 11th pick UNLESS Robert Quinn, Patrick Peterson or Von Miller are there.

Prince is over-rated. Who ever gets him early is a sucker. They should go OLB or offense (Julio Jones) and pick up a CB or two in free agency and later rounds.

i think prince can be a solid player but i don't think the texans are in a position to draft him if he falls. 1) he will still be a rookie secondary guy and those typically don't perform that great. 2) the texans need more LBs and they need one who can content for a starting position.

Adding Prince Amukamaru will help our secondary, but I also beleive we should draft him because their may not be a free agency to pick up a veteran CB. I dont think Prince will be as bad as you guys are sayinghe will be but we will find out.
