I thought it was 288 as well, but my computer calculator says otherwise. The computer can't be wrong!
It can't go either way. There is only one correct answer in an equation. The answer is 288 and anybody who answered 2 AND STILL arguing the answer is 2 is a major dumbass.
The CORRECT answer is not 2 and not 288. It's 8.67 48÷2(9+3) = 48 ÷ 18 + 6.....factoring 48 ÷ 18 +6 = 8.67
Since everyone else is polling experts, I tried two sources: My HP-35s calculator: I punched it in just as stated, and it gave me 0. If you get understand why, you're obviously as nerdy as I am. My tax accountant: He got really quiet, lowered the blinds and said, "What do you want it to be?"
Why don't you start a thread on a random forum based on the equation: x = (48/2)(9+3) and see how many responses you get, where R = responses. If R < # of responses in this thread, then the way it is written in this thread is poorly written.
Not reading through this thread. Don't question google. <img src="http://i.imgur.com/cMJwb.png" alt="" title="Hosted by imgur.com" />
qball nailed it. it's 2. Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Multiply (L to R) before Divide (L to R)...
