True, but what more do you really need out of your backup center? That's pretty much what we were getting from Deke. Rebounds, blocks, and a dunk every now and then.
miller is not a good rebounder/defender tho... deke is a monster when it comes to boards and defensive presence. actually they are two completely different player. miller is more of a shooter in big man body and deke is a a traditional defensive center.
Miller gives as much rim protection as my finger nail. He doesn't even average a block a game in his career. Shane Battier beats him there and he's 4 inches shorter.
I'm not suggesting he is the Rockets' savior in the front-court by any means, but he's available and is a decent option. I agree with you somewhat about the defense, but he provides a body and height to play in the paint. He's not Deke. No one can compare.
It's not so much his game as it is his position. A real backup center. Scola, Hayes and Hill are PF's playing as centers.
Can't say I really care either way, don't care if we get him, don't care if we don't. Granted, the few times I saw him play last season, I thought he was awful. With that said Houston doesn't really have a great backup center....so why not.
He knows the system, he can spell for a good number of games is Yao gets injured and he can spread the floor with his shooting range to get other teams center out of the low block for Martin, Brooks, Lowry can get to the basket if needed be. He is a matchup problem for opponets
1) Familiar with Adelman's offensive strategy and flourished under it 2) Can go from playing sparingly on the bench to doing solid work as a starter when Yao misses games or needs his minutes cut back.
I don't see the Rockets pursuing him now that we didn't get rid of Jeffries in the Bosh S&T. Do you really see Morey wanting four players at the 5? Yao, Hill, Jeffries AND Miller?
I have mixed feelings about Miller. The guy has had some good games against us, as I recall, but is he going to be a really useful vet at the end of his career, ala Deke, or a Brent Barry, who was a good idea on paper, on the bench, and in the locker room, but failed to produce on the floor? A couple of years ago, I'd be all over the idea. Now I'm not so sure.
Miller does fit our system and would be good, especially if Ming plays limited minutes. But I think we also need a defensive back up like Deke----CHANDLER If we can only get one, I would prefer Chandler
+1. I'd take Chandler over B.Miller, but if price is not too steep he will be an invaluable member. I like Miller because he isn't going to float around like ArtestThis is an insurance just in case Yao doesn't make it. Of all the free agent left, I'd take a Shaq before a Dream house for now.
He does have good bball and he would be considered very efficient for a backup center playing behind Yao.
In Adelmans system the center is usually playing at the FT line, getting the ball and feeding it to the cutters. If the defender plays off of him, he needs to be able to hit that shot. Miller is one of the best passing centers in the game, and he can hit a shot from out there. Plus he is cheap, willing to come of the bench and knows the system. If he were 5 years younger he`d be perfect... now he is nice for 15-20 minutes per game. I´d also like to get Scola and Hill some minutes at center, but Miller would be a nice piece to have... not necessary the missing piece, but he would help!
because he is a another big body playing behind yao to help out on his recently borderline healed foot, whats no to like  and hes cheap
