By extension, if Stephen Curry improved his body control leading to more free throws, could he become the next Kevin Martin?

    basic info from this season:

    Martin: 6-7, 185lb
    FG%: 43.8; per game: 6.9/15.7
    3P%: 38.5; per game: 2.2/5.7
    FT%: 88.9; per game: 7.5/8.4

    Curry: 6-3, 185lb
    FG%: 47.1; per game: 6.7/14.3
    3P%: 43.6; per game: 2.0/4.6
    FT%: 93.2; per game: 2.9/3.1

Curry is a much better ball-handler, but shorter. They look equally quick.
Does he have the smarts to play with the rules in his favor? More importantly do you think it could happen?

He is an efficiency stud that's for sure.

Top 10 fantasy pick for the next decade.

Great point guard, great shooter. He can be a far better player than KMart if he can develop a bit more.

If you mean choosing contact and free throws over an open layup, I hope not.

His potential is way bigger, borderline all-star.
K-Mart only lives for scorin, Curry is much more versatile, great playmaker, good rebounder, stealer, etc.

    Bad comparison in my opinion.

Curry is a lot more like Nash than Martin.

I thought it was a decent comparison because Stephen Curry is a very good ball handler, but not quite good enough to be one of the best point guards (from what I've read about him). Kevin martin is obviously way worse. However, since Curry plays with Monta Ellis (who the Warriors consider the primary ball-handler?) perhaps him developing his shooting guard skills more like Martin's, would help that team more.

The other reason I compare the two players is that in thinking about Kevin Martin's development through college and his first couple of years in the NBA, I thought his game probably looked a lot like Stephen Curry's, minus some ball-handling. (Note there's not much video of Kevin Martin in college, but I can't imagine that he used to draw as many fouls back then as he does now)

The Steve Nash comparison is tempting, but I don't think he can pass as well.

One last thing that I found interesting: hot spots and shooting percentages for both players for the '10-'11 season were quite similar

Curry will surpass martin in a few years in terms of how valuable he is to his team

Very different players. I'd take Curry over Martin.

I think the majority of us agree but I also think we'll be seeing a player who, apart from his sweet set-shots and good passing, will be hitting a lot of his off-balance as well as And-1 shots.

Also after looking at Hoopdata, the comparison to Steve Nash's scoring is strong:
    Curry
    Nash

    To clarify the initial post:
In the future I think Stephen Curry will consistently score a decent part of his points the same way that Kevin Martin does, i.e. making off-balance shots after a foul, fouls off pump-fakes. Why? they are both athletically similar in terms of quick first steps and build, have quick shot strokes. Overall I think he will have a better all-around game just because he is a much better ball-handler. He'll probably be considered the best pure shooter like DM views Nash now.
