    Lou Reed, Metal Machine Music.

    Yesterday.

I will never stop visiting the local record store until they either shut down or the day I die. Can't stay in the casa all the time. Have to get out and visit record stores, book stores, etc.

    David Grissom - 10,000 Feet , 2009, CDBaby.com

The guitarist for Joe Ely and Storyville. I liked the idea of supporting the artist more directly than the record company or Itunes

But I kinda quit doing it.

On Sunday I bought Belong by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. There was a 50% off coupon at Barnes and Noble, so it only cost $7.41 after tax. I feel like this is a better value than downloading from Amazon for $7.99.

Last summer, I bought a few CD's from artists that I liked at a little folk music festival at a park right outside my apartment in Calgary. All of the CD's that I've bought in the last 6 or 7 years have been at concerts, most of them by bands that I didn't know before the concert.

Roy Orbison boxed set from the local PBS station in 11/09 (common law wife purchased it impulsively). That was the last time I will ever buy from those dickheads, as it was $100+. I later sent them a printout with the much lower Amazon.com price, in hopes that they will not gouge their next customer.

The last time I paid for any music was "In Rainbows" by Radiohead, where you could name your own price.

I don't pay for CDs but my 1/8 in. iPod cable is broken so CD mixtape burning has seen a resurgence.

I bought the Pantera Cowboys from Hell 20th anniversary box set a few months back, and the new HAARP album last week.

An old geezer question for those who do not buy CD's:

When a musical entity releases a new "collection of music" (i.e. LP/CD), do you buy the entire "collection of music" or do you buy individual selections?

If you buy the entire "collection of music" how much would you spend?

How much for an individual selection?

I got Soft Machine's Volume Two the other day for 9.99, counting shipping. I wanted to get it as a MP3 but it is not available in that format. :(

I actually bought the mp3 version of that album off Amazon over a year ago - paid only $3.99 for it!
