Martin has obviously had a monster season coming off his broken wrist. His shooting and ability to get to the line is something to behold. Toss in the fact that Kevin's been better in the 4th and will benefit playing off a quality big when we get one ...You might say, "why even think about dealing him"... He DOES have defensive shortcomings and a salary that is up there. Also there is young Courtney Lee waiting in the wings.
So, if you would deal him, what kind of player would you all expect back in the deal? star? superstar even?We could add a stud to our front line perhaps? or even add bigtime young talent and/or picks.
    Anyway as to value .........

He's about as efficient as they come and he's still young so you're not going to get anything close to fair market value for him. There's no point in trading him.

Martin is one of the untradeables on this team.

I wouldn't mind trading him if we got a star wing or center back.

He won't be traded unless it's for a star. Morey is not going to destroy all of his work so far by blowing up the roster.

Scola, on the other hand, needs to be shopped aggressively. We can't expect to really contend with Martin/Bud/Scola defensively. Patterson at the 4, acquire a center via trade or FA, and draft a SF that can play defense at #14. Budinger back off the bench if not traded.

Are you implying that there are MORE "untradeables" on the Houston Rockets?

No, you don't trade your only player with an offensive game in the post unless you can get someone back with a post presence as well. PPat doesn't have a mature post game yet.

There's no such thing as "untouchable" for this team. We aren't one or two pieces away from being a championship contender.

Seriously? Add DH and Lebron to the current lineup and you have your championship contender...take note those are only two pieces :p

Anyway, regarding KM I think Lee is only a year or two younger than him. I doubt we trade him, unless its for a clear cut upgrade like Durant.

Lee is more balanced but at this point of time KM is the better overall player. I mean let's face it, efficient volume shooters don't grow on trees. Other players like Melo can get you 25-30 pts a game but KM's one of the few who does it at an efficient clip. We've had the best offense in the league and Kmart had a lot to do with it. Also, since his game doesn't rely on dunks and athleticism you can count on him to be effective for a long time.

    1. Martin's trade value should be at an all time high. He has had his most productive season, his healthiest season, and a season on a winning team. All should contribute to his value.

    2. No such thing as "untouchable". You can touch anything you like if the price is right.

    3. We won't be able to trade Martin for an established superstar. Trading him for a semi-star would be a pointless lateral move.(unless for a center)

    4. Martin is probably our best shot at moving up the draft into the top 5 range. An aging Ray Allen did it, Martin + picks should do the trick.

The last point is our best chance at a superstar. Trading up in the draft when Morey spots a potential franchise player is much more practical than prying loose a superstar already in the league. I think this is the direction the Rockets are going in. They won't trade away Martin and Scola for scraps just so we could "tank". That might be the stupidest thing they can do. I doubt they would even trade them away for future picks since who knows who will be available in those drafts. It is much better to wait until draft day and target a specific player to move up on.

Between Martin and Scola I would like to keep Scola if we had to trade one. Not because I necessarily like one over the other, just because Martin's game is more prone to being overvalued by potential trade partners, while it would be much tougher to receive fair value for Scola considering his age and below the rim style.

I wouldn't trade him unless it nets us a bonafide superstar along the lines of Paul/Howard, which is highly unlikely to happen. I think you have a championship-caliber backcourt with Lowry and Martin, we just need to upgrade the frontcourt (primarily the 3 and 5). Although that's easier said than done.

Aren't you overvaluing top 5 picks too much? Let's remember guys like James Harden and Mayo were top 5 picks, and neither of them are projecting to be as good as Martin. In fact Kevin Martin if drafted all over again would be a top 5 pick. I'd trade KM for an established superstar like DH or Durant or WB or Rose. Anything else and I'd just keep him, you can't find value like KM's so easily.
