I know everyone has one, I never really cared about Iphones so I never played around with it, but I'm about to get one real soon and I was hoping I could get some advice from fellow CF members about how to use one, what's some useful things to download, cool games, safety tips, etc. Much thanks

Yeah if you want to do any tweaks to the phone jailbreaking is a must. Other than that I'm not really sure what tips you're looking for. Definitely don't drop it cause the screens are breakable. Get a cover that goes around the lip for protection.

After you jailbreak, install SBSettings. This is the ONE app that makes me want to jailbreak again. So very handy, increases usability dramatically.
how so? everyone keeps saying how great jailbreaking is, but everyone is vague in their descriptions. How, exactly, does it enhance/improve usability?
Okay, so it depends how much you really want to do with your iPhone. Part of the traditional "Apple/iPhone" experience is that they deliberately block you out from all of the underlying details of the device to try and simplify everything for you. This may be fine for you. I'm not even really trying to convince you that the out of the box iPhone is lacking, cause that's what most people have. I think the only reason jailbreaking came up is because you were asking for tips and "tricks." I don't know that any "tricks" exist on a stock iPhone. It's pretty straitforward. You get a phone that you can store music on and surf the internet, and you can also install apps and games. So, people mentioned jailbreaking. If you want to actually crack open what's going on in your phone and treat it more like a regular computer, jailbreaking is the only way to go. You can do things like install apps that aren't available at the iTunes store. You can remove (or hide) app that come pre-installed from Apple that you couldn't otherwise get rid of. You can customize the styling and layout of your phone to get a more unique look and to suit your preferences. You can unlock some features that are on the phone but normally locked away. (for example, use the phone on other carriers such as TMobile, use your phone as a WIFI hotspot, use facetime on 3G instead of just wifi, etc) But there is a learning curve associated with doing all of this. For most people it's better just to stick with the phone you get out of the box. Still, if you want to go there, I can offer a few recommendations. Must have jailbroken apps: - SBSettings (already mentioned... this is the feature that allows you to remove pre-installed apple apps that you don't use, also allows you to quick turn on and off Wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc.. you can also adjust the brightness from any app. It has some handy options to trigger a soft or hard reset. You can also enable or disable all other jailbreaking tweaks here... this is a must have for jailbroken phones) - OpenSSH (allows you to connect to your phone through your wireless network so that you can actually navigate the file system and transfer files to the phone from your home computer) - iFile (a file system browser for the phone itself... pretty useful if you want to navigate the files on the computer... but be aware that it's a UNIX/Linux file system, not Windows... so things look a little different) - Winterboard (come standard on a jailbroken phone, but very useful for styling a custom layout/look for your phone... many custom themes have been created and are available on the internet...) I realize that 'simple' is relative to the experience of the person, but using that site is easier than posting on this message board on an iphone.
For whatever it's worth, I've never used jailbreaking to download anything illegally. As a matter of fact, I still use the iTunes store and the Cydia store (basically the jailbroken apps store) in equal parts. Jailbreaking is not for doing stuff illegally, it's for having more control over your phone. Anybody with a PC or Mac can download illegal stuff all they want. It's pretty easy these days.
