If they are not able to trade up in the draft, i say roll the dice and get Nogueira with the #14 pick and choose the best players available with the other picks. Really excited about this kid. He is very skilled and quick for his size and age.
Deandre Jordan, Roy Hibbert and Javale McGee are projects too. Pretty much every C that comes out is a project, or else they go number 1.
Agreed. But can you really see this kid working up to 20 mpg by the end of the season? Our Achilles heal on this team right now is we need size and length and we need it on the court for 30 mpg, not sitting on the bench or in D-league (Thabeet). This kid could turn out to be a great player..........in 4 years......after our core has past their prime. I just don't see a fit. I don't see how drafting this kid would move us closer to a championship contender. I think he's got great potential. But I don't see in his body even the ability to do what Patterson did this year. Patterson has the body. He's got the brawn to go along with the brain and skill level. If Kanter (another risk because of his knees) is not there with our pick at 14 or lower, then we should trade the pick to help us get an upgrade at the 5 and the 3. Coax Chandler out of Dallas (miracle) and use the Battier TPE and our picks to get Utah and Kirilenko to do a S&T and go to war with those guys and a re-signed Hayes and Yao. We need to go sniffing Chandler out and if we can't get him then we need to go after Okafor (some combination of Scola/Thabeet/Hill/Bud/TWill/picks) or some other legit big man that is going to give us 30 mpg in a very solid defensive big man role to play alongside Chuck and Patterson. Lowry/Dragic Martin/Lee Kirilenko/Lee Okafor/Yao Hayes/Patterson
I wanted Kyrie Irving. With Kyle's improvement and Goran's flashes, Kyrie may not be what we need. Might take him anyway; but he won't be available, nor will any saviors be available at the center position ... I just don't see how this draft can possibly help us, unless the picks are part of a trade for a quality big, or maybe a miracle happens in the ping-pong hopper.
Hahaha First of all I find it funny that you think we could ever win anything with Scola and Martin at the helm. And Second of all, that is a horrible proposal. You would assure mediocrity for the next decade if that we're to go down. Dude you need to get out of that 'win now' mentality, and look at what pieces would best fit on a title contender in the long run. Noguiera if drafted could be kept over sea's to develop ala Marc Gasol, Tiago Splitter and Luis Scola, and brought over in two, three or possibly even four season's from now. He has the length and size that you need in the playoffs, not to mention his really athletic for someone his size.
Gerson Rosas said in interviews that they were "very fond of Kansas" and "liked their team alot." Now they cant come straight out and say who they are scouting, but you know they are obviously taking the Morris brothers into consideration with the draft if they feel like it would be good to take a big. -Marcus Morris is a bit more skilled, and can play the 3 or 4 spot at times but most likely will be a 4 in the NBA. -Markieff is projected to be a PF or Center at times at the NBA level but might not the offensive skills to play the 4 or size to be a true center. Either way though, dont be surprised if one of the two Morris brothers is taken with the 14th pick. If they are looking at a wing player with a high ceiling I could see them going with Terrence Jones or Alec Burks if they are still available. Either one would be a project at the NBA level of course.
Length and size? He has length....but size? Last time I saw him, he turned to the side and disappeared.
With Yao possibly coming back, Thabeet currently developing in the D-league, Hayes, Hill and Patterson we could afford to take on a project like Noguiera. I admit, it is a risk, but well worth it in the long run.
If we can't pull off a trade with our first pick, then I would be for taking Marcus Morris if he is there, and letting him play the 3. I think he's got the skill set to do it. (I would have rather had Derrick Williams and let him play the 3, but so much for our luck. Utah will probably wind up with him.)
You forgot about the other guys i mentioned. They could also bring Yao off the bench. We would also have other lower picks to address the situation.
He plays in a youth system. That's more than just a project. That's a will not help you for years draft pick.
Let's not get carried away here. He has not bean tearing up the Euroleague by any stretch of the imagination. He is a great player for his age. For all players of any age he is below average. But he is certainly much better than Rubio is. But he sure is not tearing up the league, nor anything remotely close to it.
Measurements for PF/C Bismack Biyombo and C Lucas Nogueira are in!! Bismack Biyombo: Height: 6'9 w/shoes Wingspan: 7'7 wingspan Standing Reach: 9'3 standing reach Lucas Nogueira: Height: 6'11.5 w/shoes Wingspan: 7'5.5 wingspan Standing Reach: 9'3 standing reach http://www.draftexpress.com/article/2011-Nike-Hoop-Summit-International-Measurements-3661 Keep in mind both are still only 18yrs old, so their not done growing yet.
I think we are pretty far away from a championship. The fact is that we need a star. Shoot for the moon with these picks. I hope Daryl can move up in the draft.
Oh, gonna bank on Yao too? Hill, Thabeet, and Yao......wow! I'm not banking on any of those guys. We got 3 bigs that can play....Hayes, Scola, and Patterson. Yao....hasn't played in basically 2 years now. Sure hope he makes it back. But to count on him is ridiculous. We should offer to sign him to a very mediocre contract, say $10 million for 3 years with the 3rd year being a team option. Hill....can't play. Proved it this year. Needs to be traded for a sack of peanuts. Does not have the brain cells we need to work in our system. Thabeet....can't play. #2 draft pick that CD is calling a project. We've already got a 7'3" project. Why would we need another 18 year old 218 lb project???? Trade bait. If you want gangly 7 footers that can score the ball but have no sand in their drawas and can't board and defend, Toronto is trying to figure out how to move Bargnani and get more than a mid first round draft pick for him. At least he can shoot the 3. It's time to trade Scola, Hill, Thabeet, and whatever else we got for a serious big center and an upgrade at the SF position.
My Big Board would look like this. 1. Derrick Williams 2. Enes Kanter 3. Perry Jones 4. Jan Vesly 5. Harrison Barnes 6. Kyrie Irving 7. Terrance Jones 8. Marcus Morris 9. Trey Thompkins 10. Jordan Williams The red ones are probably the guys we will be looking at though at 14.
