People this incompetent should not drive. ------ I have a friend who had to drive another friend from the W hotel in austin back to UT on 21st street at night. I asked why? were they drunk? do they not have transportation? they said: this person (healthy person in their 20s) has a car but can't drive well at night. I said: it's less than 2 miles and it's a straight line drive. they said: it's dark. I say: Downtown Austin to UT is lit up like a Christmas tree. This person needs their license revoked if they can't drive 2 miles in a straight line. they said: you don't know how bad a driver this person is. I say: If you can't find UT from downtown austin, you should be expelled from school. they said: I'm being mean.
Two miles on a straight road? That's pathetic. I just started driving a month and a half ago and I could do that easily.
Yeah. Everyone but me. In fact, you can all drive, as long as you keep a good mile distance from me in each direction.
One of the women I work with doesn't drive on freeways because the overpasses are too high. Takes the feeder all the way into downtown every morning. Visa versa in the afternoon. She also insists on closing all the shades/curtains whenever she hears thunder. When I ask her why, she looks at me dumbfounded and says "because of the lightning..." People are weird.
Probably needs glasses or if the person is like one of my girl friends, can't drive 5 minutes without crashing. I am exaggerating, of course, but she's been in at least 7 accidents that I've counted in the past year.
This... somehow... sounds... familiar... That's right, get their LAZY *SSES on a bicycle or walking!
was it wrong for me to be shocked? the other person was being sympathetic I said if this was lord of the rings, they'd pick the elves or hobbits if the humans can't see the giant volcano with the big fiery eye in front of them I understand if this was an old person, but a perfectly healthy 24 year old should be able to drive 1.6 miles in a straight line.
Yeah, I have some difficulty seeing at night, and even I can see just fine in downtown Austin. It really is lit up like a Christmas tree...literally. This is 2nd street at night: It's like that year-round.
There is still a great deal of difference between daylight and the night even in very well lit areas. I think some people just can't see well without daylight. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyctalopia
May be more of a story there than they were letting on. My mother is legally blind (can get disability), yet she can drive. But she won't drive at night because she REALLY can't see then.
I actually applaud that person. People who know they have poor night driving vision/skills and choose not to drive are doing society a favor. While I don't think you're a douche, you're not coming off as very understanding. If at all possible I avoid driving at night. I have corrected 20/700 vision in both eyes and the high index of refraction on my lenses gives off a huge halo effect. It's not like I can't drive at night but I feel much safer with someone else driving. For whatever reason, if a person chose NOT to exhibit bad driving skills I wouldn't give grief over it.
Cleverly disguised "is my girl cheating on me" thread.... Could it be that a certain lady friend of yours was suppose to make a midnight run to meet you up but then backed out and made the excuse that she had to drop someone home because he's a bad driver instead of the truth which was she wanted a quickie with the guy.......hmmmmm?
you could be right. but this person still needs directions to places they have been to multiple times. And the places are within a 5 mile radius. I know Austin is a confusing place for drivers, the names of the roads change etc. But in this day in age of GPS and google maps , it shouldn't be that hard.
hahaha:grin: it was an incident a couple weeks ago where some friends got some tickets to a show at SXSW but one of them missed the show cause they had to drive someone back right when the main act was about to start. I was just at the W on Sunday to see Janet Jackson and thought that I would have been royally pissed if I missed the concert because someone couldn't drive 2 miles.
I always wonder.. why is it so hard for people to be good at driving? Or not..bad? Its such an easy skill. just ****ing learn it
