I voted Kobe because I wanna be different. Kobe scored 81, MJ didn't, THEREFORE KOBE IZ THE GOD DERRRRRRRR
Why would Jazz fans like Kobe better. Both MJ and Kobe raped them int he playoffs lol. Kobe more recently.
Just to add more fuel to the fire, Jordan did more in an era where guards weren't protected by referees as much as they are today. Jordan had to play through hand-checking and a more physical era altogether and still put up 5k more points in the same amount of games compared to Kobe. I will say that it's only fair to remove Kobe's first two years for comparison sake, since he wasn't starting, but even then MJ wins by a landslide.
A lot of Kobe's all time stats come from the fact that he has played a lot more games than the other HOF. If the stats were adjusted to a specific number of years, perhaps within a certain age, Kobe would be around the top 10-20.
i don't understand your comment, if you think it's stupid then why do you come in this thread and read it and make a comment.... it's like you see a piece of dog $hit on the ground and you pick it up and put it in your mouth then go on and complain to everyone how it taste like $hit.
I posted this thread weeks ago Some of Michael Jordan's Ex-Teammates Have Said Kobe is Better (than Jordan) http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=202185 Discussed on the Colin Cowherd radio show, if you want to hear a strong case made for Kobe http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?autoplay=1&callsign=WEPNAM&id=6206770 (Posted to add to discussion)
Are you factoring in that Kobe was the 2nd option for the first 4 or 5 years of his career and had to share the ball with Shaq until he left. Jordan was always the first option on his team. You put Kobe in Jordan's situation as a rookie and the numbers would be a lot closer. Don't get me wrong Jordan would still have better numbers but it wouldn't be by nearly as much IMO.
This is hilarious, when was the last time a handcheck was called against Kobe's defender? Chandler pushed Kobe hard in the most critical possession in the game, no call and Kobe ended up with airball. No doubt MJ has more achievements in his career comparing to Kobe's so far. But he's also getting the treatment only Wade and LBJ can get today. He also played in an era that zone defense was not allowed. Remember Hakeem had big trouble against Seattle's zone defense? Rodman had no trouble keeping a big on weak side while MJ post up a smaller defender. Yes, you can double with the ball under the old rule but a simple pass would keep the help defender run or it's illegal. At the end of the day, Pippen > Gasol, Grant/Rodman > Odom, and Longley = an injured Bynum, just check their playoff stats. Kukoc beats the entire Lakers' bench not named Odom by himself, and Kerr's just a bonus. If anything, Kobe has proven he could win with less. And let's not forget MJ's record, 1-9 in playoff without Pippen, at least Kobe's done better. MJ's a hell of a player, with better body. But Kobe's more skilled and he's not done yet.
It is not remotely close. Only an ignorant malcontent would compare the two. Kobe could win 5 more rings and it would not change the fact that Jordan is far and away the superior player. Any person that thinks Kobe is remotely close, was likely born post 1980, I guarantee it. Only ignorance can defend such a ridiculous proposition.
I can think of one number that wouldn't be nearly as close if Kobe had been put in Jordan's situation as a rookie, the number of championships. Kobe might have scored more points (although probably not that many, he did come straight from high school after all), but he wouldn't have had Shaq to help him win three titles very early in his career, either.
Unfortunately sir, he's done. Jordan made his accomplishments in 14 seasons. Kobe had his 14 seasons already. Looks like the only category that Kobe will top Jordan is in number of games played or season competed.
I thought of that as soon as I posted it. Of course it was Kobe who helped Shaq win three titles, not the other way around.
