What are some movies you've seen that bombed with the critics, but were actually good films? I seem to remember that 2010: The Year We Make Contact was pretty lambasted when it came out because it was always compared to Kubrick's classic. I thought it was really good. Event Horizon was killed by the critics, but i've heard now from many people it's actually really cool. I still haven't seen it -but will soon. What are some others?
Yeah, that's a great example I remember that pretty well -- couldn't believe it when I saw the movie -- it's a freaking classic.
Frequency bombed, but everyone that I know that has seen it, including myself, thinks it's a REALLY good movie.
Kingdom of Heaven, the director's cut fixed the problems of the theatrical version. War of the Worlds Equilibrium
Orca: the killer whale. You have to be an old fart like me to remember this movie. It was panned as a jaws ripoff, but has aged extremely well. Some people even like this movie more than jaws itself.
Pitch Black - 38% approval from top critics though it was still popular enough to warrant a franchise.
ROBOCOP 2. How dare the critics say the acting was bad or that the movie had a silly plot? I mean, it was probably the 2nd greatest Robot Police Officer movie in the FILMING UNIVERSE!
Great thread. I always wonder how much I should consider the reviews before watching a film. Keep this thread going! Saw "from Paris with love" last night on Netflix streaming. Thought tea Olga was pretty funny.
Most good sci-fi gets destroyed. Blade Runner, 2010, and Event Horizon don't exactly have the human story that Literature major movie critics love. You cannot really trust critics on SciFi.
