CEO kills elephant and feeds starving villagers. Sounds like a hero to me.

You're naive -- a poor trait to have at your age.

And this is where these people hurt their own cause, by laying it on too thick.

If you're going to post a video of an elephant being killed and you say "Enjoy.", I think "elephant snuff film" is an appropriate characterization. The actual act of killing the animal was intended to entertain the viewer.

I think most people relate "snuff" film with having sex with people then killing them.

Eh, nothing wrong with hunting or protecting, it actually keeps us in-tune with our ancestors and does get us closer to nature.

BUT - I never did get the why people take so much joy in killing animals for sport or trophies.

I imagine it the pitch line went something like this:

"Hey rich dude, we are going to set it up, err.. im mean there's a elephant destroying our crops! We will set up the shot for you you can just drive up in your jeep and shot!" Will that give you feeling of big penis? Pay us now up front. You're such an amazing hunter!"

Try being a little less short sighted, and look a little more in depth at things. It might serve you well.

I'm not saying there is never a case where an elephant needs to be shot. In this case it wasn't necessary. It certainly wasn't necessary for some guy to fly around the world and do it.

this is a non issue, the man killed a beast who was being a pestilence to the local inhabitants, while at the same time feeding the villagers with its meat...and its not like he started beating off after killing the elephant out of pure joy of its murder.

To those that classify this as ppl enjoying watching the elephant die or its a snuff film...

If he wanted to kill the elephant for those purposes he would have done it in the day time, with a smaller gun, and shot the poor thing in the legs until it bled to death.

You are simply not in a position to judge right and wrong in this situation.

After seeing the evidence, I'm in a position. If the guy was so concerned he could have actually bought CD's and used those.

    http://www.zandavisitor.com/forumto..._CDs_To_Keep_Elephants_From_Crop_Raiding-News

    They've also successfully used bees.

    http://findraja.srilankaelephant.com/blog/2011/01/02/bees-to-keep-elephants-away/

Using chilies and burning elephant dung has also been successful in keeping raiding elephants away. The elephants are repelled by the smell of chili peppers, and it will keep all elephants away not the one that has been shot.

    http://bushwarriors.wordpress.com/2...-the-day-elephant-pepper-development-trust-2/

The guy has resources to try any number of methods many of which are better than this short term solution.

Furthermore elephants may actually attack as revenge against humans. So he may have done more damage than help.

    http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/elephants-remember-to-take-revenge/2006/02/16/1140064203387.html

The guy was selfish, stupid, short-sighted, and just a first class a-hole.

Why don't you get a grip instead of trying to assign motive to people who object to the Idiot Parsons and his joy of needlessly killing an endangered animal.

Oh please your response was not convincing at all, and shows your clear bias. How do you know they didn't already try all your silly solutions? Bees, chilies and burning elephant dung? Are you kidding me? Spare us. You don't know.

Actually these are all things that have a record of success. They have been tested and shown to work.

If you'd care to put up some research that says otherwise, go ahead. If not, then you can go ahead and move along.

Until you show me that these haven't already been tried in the area, your point is moot.

And have you really thought about how stupid some of your ideas are? Would you like to have a bunch of bees outside YOUR home? Think, man, think. Please.

Elephants weren't endangered then. I'm not against hunting in general, and even killing elephants in specific cases if it's needed.

Though the fact that Teddy Roosevelt did it doesn't justify it. He also wanted to take over all of North America. That doesn't make it a good idea.

That was a long time ago -- if Roosevelt were alive today he would be leader in protecting animals (along with our environment).
