The way he plays reminds me of Patty. Tough and aggressive inside. Looks like he loves contact too. I like We've got so many PF though.
A year ago, I would 100% agree with you. Now I'm not so sure. I think the Rockets view Martin as a key part of their future -- arguably their most important piece. I think Morey might get creative with trade offers in order to find a way to keep Martin.
*Reading comprehension fail* I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out why the hell you wouldn't trade the 14th and 23rd pick for the 4th pick.
KENNETH FARIED I am seeing him go late in a lot of mock drafts. I think he is worth the rockets 14th pick. I know a lot of people will say not another undersized 4, but I bet his standing reach is a legit 9' tall. Plus he is one of the quickest leapers that I have seen. He still needs to work on things, but he will be considered the steal of this draft. Draftexpress has a great video of him on their page. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kenneth-Faried-5325/
from the mock drafts that I've seen, the rockets could just pick him with the Orlando pick if need be. Not worth the lottery pick. With that said, I want Kemba Walker in Rocket Red next year..
Says who? I actually think a SF/PF combo player would be nice. All of the Rockets' PFs are either strictly PFs (Scola, Patterson) or makeshift PF/Cs (Hayes, Hill). I could definitely see the Rockets running a lineup of Lowry, Martin, Lee/Budinger, [SF/PF combo], and a big. The Rockets are set at the wing spots with Martin, Budinger, Lee and maybe even T-Will. There is no wing player in this draft who is clearly as good as any of those guys (with the exception of Harrison Barnes, who is out of the Rockets' range, anyway). Not saying that the Rockets HAVE to take a SF/PF combo player. Just that it would add more of a missing element to this team than drafting another swingman.
Perry Jones most over rated player I've seen. He's not that good yet but I would draft him, just don't be surprised if he's a bust or we get another anonymous player or if we get a player not made in the U.S.A
I've said it before and ill say it again there is only a few players on this team who you can keep the rest need to go to be contenders: Keepers: L.Scola P.Patterson C.Hayes C.Budinger C.Lee K.Martin K.Lowry Sign/Draft/Trade: M.Gasol- I really don't think Memphis can resign him and Randolph, Marc will be the odd man out. D.Jordan- This guy would be a great backup to our starting C, possibly get him threw a trade for Miller and future pick. K.Irving- Duke G would be a great back up to Lowry, smart young player witha high basketball I.Q. T.Prince- I love this guy at the SF he is a great defender that can guard multiple position, i've always likes his game and after all he is a FA and former champion. Obviously in a perfect world this would be an amazing off season but very possible, our line-up would consisnt of: Starting: C-M.Gasol/D.Jordan F-L.Scola/P.Patterson/C.Hayes F-T.Prince/C.Budinger G-K.Martin/C.Lee G-K.lowry/K.Irving
Pingpong balls, Hope & Prayer... - Enes Kanter out of Kentucky / Turkey - he is a MANCHILD ( a young Soboanas-spelling and that is a VERY GOOD THING ) the only knock on him is his knees ... I would trade Scola & Hill plus the 14th for him today... and take on some bad / but short contracts, too... This kid is the real deal and worth the price; he fits what and who the Rockets are and should want to become IMO... Patterson and Kanter would work nicely together... IF Kanter does not work out than a R.Horry/C.Roberson type of small forward would be nice if we are going to DREAM... Give time, time
This is a fantastic thread because the rockets are actually quite flexible on where to build our next "star" for the next 7 years or so in the league. Clearly it looks like we need a player than fit the mold in the guard position or center because were pretty set with our future in the Pure PF department. It's not a big deal if we don't have seven footers because that dynamic is going to die in the next three years and its back to the 90's style of play of having great quick guards and forwards. With that being said, the rockets could use any of these players: -Kyrie Irving -Shelvin Mack -Kemba Walker -Derrick Williams (maybe for a trade) -Perry Jones -Jimmer Fredette -Tyler Honeycutt -JAmie Skeen (The next Lamar Odom) -Jacob Pullen -Harrison Barnes Not Leonard or any of the Kentucky players because those guys aren't developed and yet are positioned to be drafted high, a bad combination and I truly feel that another year in college will help their game and learning curve, much like ALOT of the Texas players are doing and Jared Sullinger. The rockets would waste a pick on picking up young talent that needs years to develop. (prob be sent to the D-league) I hope a trade goes down to bring a stud into Town. Although I don't see anyone settling in Houston (cant imagine why not with this type of market) The rockets need to build the youth. HASHEEM NEEDS TO TRAIN WITH HAKEEM. ... if that somehow magically works, the rockets could honestly be looking into the Finals in about four years.
I agree with you. I have been studying the SF/PF position, especially kids coming out of college. It appears to me that the best NBA SFs are essentially small power forwards in college. Durant, Carmelo, Granger to name a few. Lebron didn't go to college. Gerald Wallace. Kirilenko is a 3/4. Only a few, like Iggy are 2/3s. Artest played 4 in college. Same with Battier. There is a lot of the top small forwards in this league that either played PF in college or have college PF size and length. That's why I'm looking at this draft and seeing who playing the PF position in college could possibly be moved to the 3 in the NBA. This is my reasoning for Derrick Williams being a 3 in the NBA. He's slightly undersized for a PF, yet very athletic, would be very long for an NBA 3, and he's got range out to the 3 point line, and can handle the basketball. Derrick Williams reminds me of Carmelo at Syracuse. Another kid I'm wondering about playing the 3 in the NBA is Marcus Morris. He's another tweener, but has a handle and definite perimeter skills to go along with a good post game. I still would like to go after Kirilenko in the off season, offer him Battier's TPE money and get Utah to S&T him here for a TPE and a pick or something like that since they appear to be in big time rebuilding mode. If we make the playoffs, we are going to have two first round picks in the 20s and one at the top of the second round. That's a lot of wasted salary for guys that are guaranteed money but are not likely to be much of a contributor on this team loaded with vets like we are. If we can't get high to get Derrick Williams or some other contributors, I'm all for using our picks as bait to to a S&T for Kirilenko.
With Lowry, Martin, Lee, and Williams (possibly) capable of playing minutes at the 2, I see no reason to worry about getting a SF that may not be able to play SG. Jones would be a great help to the defense if the Rockets got a defensive center.
