    Hey guys,

I was talking with my friends today and we were wondering what the best nba team would be if the best player was removed. This was brought up because I said we could challenge a lot of teams if there star was out (ours being Yao).

I personally think that the celtics, heat, and blazers would be contending team in this "altered league" while teams like orlando and dallas would drop significantly

Another intersting point: what team could have beatin the rockets without their two best players? When Yao and Mcgrady were out against the lakers i feel that if kobe and gasol weren't there.. we would have dimantled them

Yao hasn't played enough this season to be considered our team's "star". I think right now, its either Lowry or Martin (since all-star break, I'm leaning more toward Lowry). I don't think our team would be too hot if either of the two were taken out of the picture.

The Nuggets had their star removed following the All-Star break and they've been playing out of their minds.

What i'm implying is whoever is under contract or is on the roster... not in terms of really playing this year.. so IMO the rockets have technically played with their best player out for most of the last 2 years

I hate to say this but the Lakers.

If you remove both Bryant and Gasol they still have...

    Fisher
    Brown
    Artest
    Odom
    Bynum

... a very strong front line... sigh, I hate them..

A front line of bynum, gasol, and odom is hard to top. I would say the lakers won game 7 inspite of kobe not because of him.

If you remove the star from Miami, a team with LeBron/Bosh would be tough to top tho. But you can almost guarantee that they will choke come postseason.

    whoa...the nuggets???

The nuggets didnt have their star removed, they traded him, as in got talent back for him. That doesn't count. You'd have to remove Nene instead. We lost Yao and didn't get anything for him.

yeah lebron bosh would be a really good combo even with their utter lack of depth, but wade bosh would not be as good for sure

you're not taking out both...actually neither of them. Yao's our star and he's already out. He cant be ignored just because he's injured. Hes taking a huge chunk of the team's cap space, so he counts.

Why is no one mentioning the Spurs?

You take 1/3 of the Big 3 out they would still be contenders. Same goes w/ Miami.

It helps that these teams have 3 solid players and it's a lot easier to lose your best player when your next 2 best players are almost as good.

The Nuggets are being ridiculously overrated because people are thinking no Carmelo is their best player. Melo doesn't count he isn't a Nuggets, the best player now is Nene or Ty Lawson. You take either of those guys out, I don't think the Nuggets would be better than the Rockets right now with their best player (Yao).

Definitely between us and the nuggets, considering neither have stars.

That's easy...the best team with the star removed? The last pistons team with Karl Malone being removed...they won the championship because of that...oh wait...

$18 million dollars. Doesn't matter what he's labeled, he represents about 30% of a roster's value not playing on the floor.
