I understand frustration after losing like that, but we should all expect this team to be mediocre to bad this year. With that said, enjoy the little things, getting a hit and scoring a run off Halladay, Bourn smoked a couple balls today including his triple to the gap, Meyers continued his great pitching from last year, and the throw by Q from his knees.

If you can't enjoy baseball for the sake of baseball, this is going to be a long long year, as an Astros fan.

Days like today are just gut wrenching HOWEVER there are 161 more to go and if we play like we played today minus Lyons vomit job, we will win a lot of games.

Eh well it is true. The Texans literally choked away their season, a season the Colts were weak along with the other teams...out of all the Houston teams theirs was the worst.

The Rockets had numerous games at the start of the season where they had a good lead going into the 4th...of course they need every game they can now and those games (like Lee missing FTs to beat the Spurs...) are coming back to haunt them now.

Whether the Astros will follow this trend, who knows?...but the start of the season is not a good sign. That was definitely a choke job IMO, not one strike out and of course 6 out of the 7 hitters got hits.

I went to class with the Astros up 4-0 and I come home only to find out they lost

Who cares about the little things if you don't win?

I think we have different definitions of choking. Choking, to me, is missing 4 fts to put the game away in the last minute, or missing the game tying or go ahead fts with 5 seconds to go.

Getting beat when your secondary is historically bad, or getting beat when the team doesn't have a set rotation for the 4th quarters and no one knows their responsibility or who gets the ball at the end of the game, that's not choking, that's just being a bad team. The Texans and early season Rockets were bad teams. Poor execution isn't the same thing as choking.

In the middle of the 9th, I went into town to get some groceries with the win all but secured.

Lyon - 6h, 3er in 1/3 of an inning. Nothing is secure with this team. I really thought just maybe this team wouldnt start off in the hole.

I just realized the Astros played earlier today and checked out the box score. So how does the Manager leave in a relief pitcher to give up six hits in the bottom of the ninth? I sure it has been discussed in this thread already, but I just don't get it. I think after the 4th or 5th hit the guy should be pulled. Good grief.

I thought about that too but it sends a bad message to the whole team IMO if you yank your closer on opening day. He wasn't getting rocked out there, several of the hits were just dinky, luck singles.

It's choking to me yep. You do the things that needs to be done to win the game, especially when the game is right there to be had.

If you're giving up a 70 yard drive with about 30 seconds to go and the other team has no timeouts that is choking. No matter how bad your secondary is that should not happen. It's choking on the coaching staff and the players out there. How do you smash the team by running the ball of the first week of the season then the next time you meet that same team...in a huge game...you get cute and decide to NOT run the ball? That's choking.

When things start to suddenly fall apart when the game is there to be had is choking. Why wasn't the 4t qtr rotation set? Then that is a failure of the coach to have choked away so many games earlier in the season. It's not a bad team if they turn around and show they are much better than they have been.

Today was a choke job imo, sure we can say that the closer just wasn't good enough...well that's why. Because good closers are clutch and don't flinch when put in such situations.

Poor execution down the stretch IS choking. Either that or fatigue.

I just see it as being a bad team. Agree to disagree.

I know its a team game but the 'stros actually won today, Lyon lost. So for ppl to be so upset and think that its the end of the season is jumping the gun. We didn't lose 4-0, Lyons choked after Myers pitched a great game. This astros team is not last decades teams and shouldn't be compared like its a sure thing now that were going to have a bad first half and pick it up at the end of the year as always. I'm thinking that Wandy vs Lee tomorrow and I'm excited and will be watching

    i was pissed.

now i'm drunk. so i can say i'm happy the team looked solid. Honestly, playing like we played today can win the division with just a little help from cincy. (and milwaukee/stl's continued injury issues)

Brandon Lyon is the Brad Lidge of the Astros. He sucks!!! All the great things the young Astros did to make it a 4-0 game and he comes Brandon Lyon to F' things up.

Expect more blown games thanks to Lyon and his lame ass 3yr contract.

^^To be fair Lyon took over with a 4-2 lead. Myers left when it was 4-1. Either way we lost but it was a great game by most of the 'stros and Myers
