Lopez should have been left in the game, this game was sad to watch at the end, more so as i could see the choke job coming. *pause*

I called it in the spring training thread, Melancon will be our 8th inning guy by the break...well, I think he might be the closer instead. Kid has an above average fastball and devastating 12-6 curve.

Lyons is a good reliever, he sucked last season early on and recovered nicely but just don't like his stuff for a closer.

I think I've just gone into a further stage of depression. I feel like i'm in a sports nightmare that just won't go away.

Melancon will be the eventual closer, but will be groomed first as the 7th inning guy (like Lidge was)... Lyon is a total rhythm pitcher, and needs to have pin-point control to be effective.

Game 1 of 162. Relax. Also, you'll have plenty more games that will make you want to slit your wrists by the end of the year, pace yourself!

    same astros, different season.

    Problems at closer in April
    Epic hitting slump May
Can't beat the Jr. Circuit in June
Out of it by the ASB
Nice 2nd-half, making us thing we've turned the corner.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

After the Texans choked away a great start to their season, then the Rockets choked away so many wins at the start of the season...of course the Astros are going to choke.

    Houston - Choke City

Us Houstonians are a rare breed. Suffering season after season of teasing disappointment, and we still cheer. UGH

There are plenty of other cities in the US with teams you can follow...

Lol, sorry I'm here to stay. Doesn't mean I have to be a bustle of optimism.

You also don't have to **** on the season after game 1 (especially with the choke city line). I hope you have your expectations set appropriately with this team, if not, you'll be disappointed plenty.

Assuming you aren't going to count my one game foray into Houston Cougar Women's Basketball (and they LOST the one game I watched) the last time I had a good team to follow was the Dynamo from a couple years back (and that team choked in the playoffs).

Rockets= aggressively mediocre due to injury
Texans= aggressively mediocre due to passivity and mismanagement
Cougar Football- middle of the pack in also ran conference, refuses to field a defense
    Cougar Basketball- Bad
Astros- Below average, attempting to rebuild but without any "A" level prospects
Dynamo- So good for a while that their best players played their way into better leagues, now averagish

I was so pumped about the return of baseball, and if we had been clubbed like a baby seal by Halliday I would have been "Meh, its just one game out of 162"....but to lose this way, in a fashion I can tell is going to be a recurring theme...is just a nut punch.
