I get more thank yous than no responses. Kinda irks me with the no responses too. No big deal, but it adds up when you notice it.

Have you seen a woman multitask while driving?

No thanks, I don't want dust and windex in my sandwich.

When I open a door for a woman, or keep it open for them, and they dont say thank you...I make sure to say, "youre welcome" as they walk away. And I do it loud enough where I know they hear it.

One time in college I waved in front of an automatic door sensor and the door opened as a lady carrying groceries walked through. She smiled and said thanks. I think she might have been a little sarcastic.

I always get a 'thank you' when I hold the door open for a lady, but that is just because I'm a stud..:p

A true story. I was at a bar last night where a friend was playing. The way the bar is configured you have to pass by the women's bathroom from a front bar room to the back room where my friend was playing. As I start walking between the rooms the women's bathroom door was opening about a few steps in front of me. So I stop and a rather attractive woman starts coming out of the bathroom. When she sees me she stops too and I being the gentleman that I am wave her ahead. She smiles and as she starts walking in front of me towards the back room she looks over her shoulder and checks me out and wiggles her butt a little bit. Unfortunately she was with some other guy but let this be a lesson to you that chivalry does pay.

I don't see the point in holding the door for someone else, unless they are old and feeble or a small child. If I wanted credit for holding a door, I'd work as a door man and get paid for it.

Really no 'point' in holding a door open for either old or young if they're strangers. The child needs to develop upper back and bicep strength and old people are biologically past their prime anyway, so why help?

It's just a matter of courtesy.

I can't stand people without common courtesy. A while back I held the door for some girl, didn't say thank you and then she ended up in front of me and the next door she opens barely enough for her to get through when she knew damn well I was right behind her. That's when I slam the door open as loud as I can.

    LOL.

They can hurt themselves or block the flow of traffic through the door if its a struggle for them to get through.

OK. To me, courtesy is giving the door an extra push or holding it open for a split-second while you're walking through it, so someone immediately behind you doesn't have to deal with a door closing shut on them. People do that all the time without even making eye contact, and there's no need for this "See what I did there?" / "Yeah, you're awesome, thanks." business.

I think holding the door for someone else to walk through before you when they are perfectly capable of operating a door on their own and then expecting them to say "thank you" in return is more of an imposition than an act of courtesy.

From a woman's perspective, men's insistence on acknowledgement takes away the value anyway.

I do it because I want to know people. Some are annoying. SOme are nice. Some are shy. Some don't care.

Culturally, we never walk behind or in front of a person unless there is a serious hurry(and you have to apologize). Also, the rule is that the person on the right always goes first, regardless of gender. I find that this makes things easier, equally polite and less time consuming.

Good ol' southern hospitality. I live in a small town just north of Atlanta, and the people are amazing.

As for the OP, yeah it does get a 'bit annoying at times. Just gotta suck it up, or else you'll be just like them.

I don't like it when this happens... Last night I took a friend out for dinner for her birthday as we are walking in to the restaurant a guy just a head of us pulled the door all the way open like a doorman and stood their while we walked in first. I've had this happen when I was alone as well, which is even stranger IMO.
