So there's something wrong with calling out a culture/society that throws women in jail for being raped?

I don't see anybody dogpiling on Islam/Muslims/ME/Arabs/Pakistan in this thread. Yes, ATW does overexpose his views on extremist Islam (kinda like DD in the GARM), but this is not the thread to choose this battle.

    Again,

Read the article, she was not put in jail for the fact that she got raped. She was put in jail because the authorities thought otherwise(which is still wrong and I believe that there should have been a more thorough investigation before they just threw her in jail).

However, eventually they got it right, even though she had gone through a lot psychologically they are still trying to help out by compensating her financially, if it will help her or not that I cannot say.

I read it the first time. She got thrown in jail because of sheer stupidy / ass-backwardness. Rape is not adultery. Rape is not sex. Most men don't realize how brutal rape is. Women don't always come forward.

8 months of her life is gone because she tried to do the right thing. Who knows if any other women were raped by the same people and never came forward.

Actually, the article says she was 'pardoned' which suggests that the Dubai court still thinks she's guilty but forgave her. Probably they were worried about the bad PR her case would necessarily garner if they kept her in prison.

Normally, I like to pile on to ATW like everyone else, but I don't see how you can in this thread. Charging a woman with adultery when they are forcibly raped makes no sense and is a plain miscarriage of justice. And, it's a story that seems to keep coming out of the Muslim world. In this case, if they can't find evidence that she was raped, how do they have evidence that she had sex at all?

Unless there's something about the story you've neglected to share with us, I can't understand your objection at all.

One, if there was no evidence of rape or drugs, how did they imprison her for 8 months for adultery? Is there some evidence she had consensual sex and then made a false accusation of rape?

Two, is it breaking the rules to be the victim of rape? Is it still adultery if you can prove without a shadow of a doubt that it's rape?

You're joking right? She reported that she was raped and in turn was arrested for having sex. Mull that over for a few seconds.

    Remedial?

And about the bolded part of your quote, no it doesn't.

Panda45 got b**** slap(how can she slap) all over the place, quit now my Indian friend!

"There was never a prosecution against anyone for sexual assault or rape," she said.

How can you not love UAE, a place like that can only be called paradise. I hope all of you who are attacking ATW will take your women over there, I hear it's a very safe place for them because there are virtually no sex crimes!

FWIW, if Penda45 is a Paki, I can't blame him for not thinking clearly after what just transpired in Mohali... :(

I will have to differ with you on that part because it has happened to me.

In 2006 I was wrongly accused for threatening a cop's life and was arrested for it, fortunately I made bail and did not have to stay in jail.

It took me over a year to prove my innocence and cost me a lot of money, but I am grateful that my innocence was proven because I was looking at actual jail time.

What I was trying to say is that people get wrongly accused for crimes on a daily basis and have to prove their innocence, if I may have worded it wrong then that is my fault.

That is my fault, I did not read the article carefully and went ahead with my posts.

However the point I was trying to make is that the UAE is a pretty normal place to live in the middle east. I mean why is it that majority of their population is expats mainly from Europe and they have stayed there for years and years without problems?

Isolated incidents happen everywhere, that still should not give us a right to condemn the whole nation because of it.

Esteban have you ever been to UAE? If not I really don't think you should be talking about it, just my advise to you.

What's wrong with the posting of this story here? As JV mentioned when he starts too many of these threads we'll get on him about it -but this is a totally legit discussion.

The blind defense of religious law in this thread is flat out wrong.

Do you ever feel like a hypocrite by spending 100% of your time on this forum combating ATW because of his 'hate' with your own pure, unadulterated stalker type hatred?

    Indeed...

Maybe that opens your eyes to what you are constantly aligning yourself with when you try to "pile on", in terms of the mindset of the people.

    Exactly.

Let them explain to you how much a woman's testimony is worth under Sharia law compared to a man's testimony. That might help clear things up.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/2010/jul/05/sharia-law-religious-courts

Good luck proving rape under that law.

There is no blind defense of anything. There is the propoganda that ATW loves to spew. Even the way he words his thread title is pathetic, as if to imply that she was raped in the UAE jail.

Everything is a smear campaign by him.

As far as the article goes, Yes there is wrong done by both the Hotel and by the authorities. Wouldn't be surprised if the authorities and the hotel worked together to hush her up and put her in jail...

Nope, not at all. I dont deny my dislike for him. He denies his hatred towards the religion of Islam, towards Muslims, and towards pretty much anything without blue eyes and blonde hair.

So now the issue isn't the stupidity of the authorities in UAE, or the pathetic response of the Hotel, rather it is now Sharia that is at fault... Something that UAE does not really even implement.

    Objective Reached?
