I'll open a door for a woman in a skirt or dress.

If she's wearing pants, I don't open the door for 'em.

Well, reading this thread I’m starting to get that impression...

There is sort of a “big fish in a small pond” syndrome here, especially with the women. Some have been here for decades and have been promoted to management just by default, and they are the ones who walk around acting like they are Donald Trump.

My department handles a lot of problems and it seems it’s always the women we deal with are the ones who raise the biggest stink about the smallest, most meaningless of problems, whereas the men are the ones who are more likely to say “let’s just solve it and move on.”

You mean men are practical and women are emotionally sensitive, dramatic, and illogical?

I think I started a thread on this a while back, but my biggest complaint is the BS practice of letting women off of the elevator first. Now if I'm standing shoulder to shoulder with a woman, then yeah sure I'll let her off first. But if there is a woman in the back of the elevator and men in the front by the doors, then it is absolutely r****ded to try to contort your body in a way that she gets to exit the elevator first. It's dumb. Really really dumb. For real.

An enlightened woman is a woman who can cook and clean at the same time.

No it's not. It's common courtesy.

You hold the button to keep the door open. Man or woman.

This kind of reminds me of the time I made this homely girl at work an Wolf Parade mix cd, but she didn't even bother giving me some action later.

I usually get thanked when I hold the door for someone.

The thing that gets to me is not getting a wave when I let someone in in heavy traffic.

it's only common courtesy if you're the man or women right in front of the button. Otherwise, "being a gentleman" by letting the person behind you off first is as downright idiotic as the people who just can't wait for others to get off the elevator before setting foot it in because they're afraid it will leave them behind.

    I'm with you, Ima.

About 1 year ago I had the exact same realization as you... no show of appreciation from women and it was pissing me off...

since then I've stopped holding open doors or letting women enter an elevator or a doorway before me (this does not include family or friends. This only applies to perfect strangers).

    And I've never looked back.

My sense of etiquette goes like this:

    dude - pay no mind

female with no physically attractive attributes - pay no mind

cute female - I'll hold the door while checking the physical attributes

hot female - I'll hold door while visually fondling her attributes, if she says "Thank you", I'll say "No, thank you" then a ;)

Agreed. I almost added that as a proviso.
