lowry was injured all the time when he played for the memphis grizzlies. hell, he missed most of all the regular season in his rookie year.
They didn't it was a gamble but they announced before the end of the season that they'd match offers for both. Most teams with the money were overly focused on the likes of Bosh, Stoudamire and a few others, but discouraging others from thinking we won't protect assets with matching Lowry's contract was probably a necessary bargain chip in get Scola's people to the table.
We needed a C. Brad Miller knows the offense, is able to shoot, and already has chemistry with the coach. We needed to keep the chemistry intact from last year. Lowry is the perfect compliment to Brooks. AND (this might be the biggest factor) Ish Smith wasn't "discovered" yet. Sure, you can say these were bad contracts now, but when it came time to sign, Morey made the right, logical choices.
You know one thing Morey has been very good at is getting rid of bad contracts pretty quickly. He got rid of Artest and Ariza very quickly, so if he thinks Miller or Lowry are bad, they probably get moved next offseason. DD
The guy always looks totally out of shape and can't shoot worth a lick. I'm still trying to figure out why he was signed for that much. Of course someone who's not in shape and plays that way is going to get injured.
We got a bunch of fake people in this forum.. i recall when kyle was offered a contract with cleveland, all of you all were upset, and asking morey to match etc.. well he is here, the guy is hurt cmon man, its 6 games so far lol chill guys.. the bad contract was Miller, i did a thread in the offseason with a poll, wethere we should go after miller or shaq.. by an outstanding majority you all chose Miller, i knew he was a bad decision. shaq is at least a big body to match up against the lakers and other bigs, Miller is outplayed by HIll and is useless
Try not generalize when attempting to make a point. I was not one of those "all of you" pushing to get Lowry's contract matched. I am one that feels AB's contract should've been prioritzed before his. If Ish's keeps showing promise, it would make Lowry's contract even more expendable.
artest was a free agent how was that getting rid of a bad contract? not sure if you can call Ariza at the MLE bad either when there were other teams offering the same deal to him that summer so that was probably market value for him. they moved him to save money thats for sure after signing both Lowry and Scola to larger deals than expected. The move made perfect sense financially as really the other players on this team either 1) were paid too much - jeffries, battier, martin or too little to get a reasonable talent return at the same price - brooks, budinger, hill
This thread= epic fail lol. I remember all the hate at the time, thought it was expensive for a back-up but Kyle even as a reserve was a guy i loved watching. Turns out this contract is brilliant for us
Darryl Morey's signing of Kyle Lowry to his current 4-year, $24 million contract was a great move that has once again demonstrated Darryl Morey to be a genius as an NBA General Manager. Case closed.
