The Rockets are unlikely to plan for cap room now without knowing what the cap is.
In any case, I doubt they let talent go in favor of cap room. They didnt do it last year and won't d it next time either. Not how they roll. If need be, there is always sign and trade.

Remember we didn't miss out on Bosh due to lack of room. We missed out due to lack of Wade and James.

They missed on both. No team is doing sign and trade for contracts, they're doing sign and trades because the player wants to be there. The rockets were never in the game for bosh at any point because Toronto, much like the other teams wanted the flexibility. The rockets wouldve had to send out the 25% + 100k to get bosh. Once you lose a guy like bosh and orlando has shown it, its better to have huge flexibilty in payroll. Utah used the te to get Jefferson. Trading for Kaman is not a depletion in talent or production by no means. The rockets need money flexibility more than paying hayes what he is worth at 5m or so.

Reports (by Wojnarowski and others, I recall) were that Colangelo and Morey had a potential S&T scenario worked out if Bosh would sign with Houston. The issue was that Bosh wanted to join Wade in Miami.

Hayes' contract, or equivalent money, won't be hard to unload if need be, unless you sign him to a stupid contract, especially if we are talking about clearing room for FA more than 1 year from now. There's plenty of time to deal with such things. In the mean time, you go get the best talent that you can get and roll with it.

What Les doesn't understand is that getting rid of Adelman will set this team back another ten years. Your making the biggest mistake in franchise history. The Rockets are not even a 30 win team without Adelman and staff

We've seen this with Brad Miller. Rick wanted him, Morey was willing to pay him. I think its the same situation for Yao. If Les wants him back, and he has any sort of value left, then Morey will shell out the Bucks for him.

They key is Yao still being able to play....Nobody will pay millions of dollars for a corpse on the court.

Yeah, they had a sign and trade worked out and it involved martin, brooks, patterson(or the pick) the knicks pick next year. I like bosh, I didnt think he was worth it. You dont think miami offered a sign and trade for at least beasley? Colangelo knew even if bosh go to houston, houston was going to accept that offer. Oh, I forgot taking calderon back also.

Houston is now or could be in positition with a kaman trade to give up a lot less via trade for howard if it came to that.

Yao wanting to come back is a big positive. After reading this could it be that Morey was trying to trade Yao, and Les vetoed such a trade???? Is that the big argument culprit... Yup I am a conspiracy creator

Claiming you said something 3 years ago gives you no credibility, especially when discussing something as fluid as the relationship between a coach and an owner. I know for a fact that Alexander was happy with the performance of Adelman 3 years ago... was happy last year as well. If you do not take my word for it, consider that Alexander voluntarily exercised his contractual right to extend Adelman in 2009 and 2010.

So now, three years later, there is the possibility of Alexander not being happy with Adelman, you claim you said it three years ago, as if it gives you credibility, when it DOES not because 3 years ago the relationship between Adelman and Alexander was excellent.
