Going into OT right now. Melo finally plays like a superstar offensively as he has hit a ton of huge shots in the 4th, but barely misses a tip in to win the game. dwight howard continues to beast and the knicks commentators are just jocking him like crazy funny how the knicks commentators say the knicks are playing great D tonight and the magic still scored 100 points in regulation. but howard is so great defensively that amare barely gets any 1-on-1 touches in tonight's game. wow
This could have been another Knicks meltdown but, fortunately for them, Howard and J-Rich with consecutive moronic plays fit for a king.
The Magic got hosed. J-Rich and Melo get tangled up, J-Rich gets the loose ball and passed to Hedo who hits a 3. Right before he hit it, Melo who was obviously frustrated pushed J-Rich back down so J-Rich grabs Melos leg. The ref only sees the last part and gives J-Rich the foul. The 3 doesn't count. Melo smiles his sneaky ass off.
despite the win, the knicks cannot be happy. they were fortunate melo made a ton of tough shots with isolation plays. there were little ball movement (and frazier harped on this a ton during a stretch in the 4th). they hustled harder defensively definitely and that is something they can build upon. but this team has no real identity on both ends. they'll win games by just the greatness alone of their stars (melo tonight), but they'll be pounded in the playoffs in the first round.
not related, but the spurs lost. they're now at 17 losses with the lakers at 20. the lakers still have a good shot at the #1 seed in the west.
The chances are pretty high as long as Duncan, Manu, Parker, and Mcdyess stay out. Plus we're going to beat them.
The Melo/JRich exchange toward the end of overtime is just "dumb and dumber." Melo was braindead for grabbing JRich first. He was lucky to have gotten away with it. If he got caught at the same time as the Hedo 3, wouldn't that be a possible 4-pt play? JRich was equally stupid but he got caught and cost his team 3 pts. Dumb dumb dumb.
The only way the Knicks won was by Melo cheating and fouling Richardson who then got caught fouling Melo back.
Relying on your opponent's players to act more stupid than your own player does so you can win in overtime does not sound like a formula for success to me.
I hate that ESPN has this obvious motive to play up Melo and Knicks. Right now the photo on the main ESPN NBA page is Melo dunking in this dramatic lighting like he is some sorta god. The team just lost 6 straight and caught quite a few breaks to come out with a win tonight. Let's not get carried away - the Knicks are not a serious team...even if they beat the Magic (to stop a 6 game slide).
