Went to UH main campus in the late 80's am currently finishing up my B.A in literature at UHCL (Yes I know the Clutchfans bias for science/business degrees and how nothing else is a "real" major....I am reading and analyzing 16 full length novels this semester, if this isn't a real major you can bite me)
Make sure you are in the top %. Most of the people that go there are not smart so if you do not beat them you will be nationally disadvantaged.
How do people that live in Houston not like UH? Shame.. I'm majoring in pre-pharm atm. Took a tour of Cambridge and they are the best dorms for the price/sqft. Cougar village are the new freshman dorm and they are very overpriced. UH is tier 1 so don't say it's a bad school.
I live at Cambridge Oaks now. I hate it. The rooms were filthy when I got here and are even worse now that my stupid rommmates messed everything up. I don't even stay here except to sleep and shower. Go to Cullen or Bayou Oaks if possible.
I went to UH for 3 years and graduated from UHCL with Accounting/Finance major. I'm jealous of all the pople that get to live in Cougar Village I drove past those and they looked amazing! I lived in the Quads and Bayou Oaks
The room set up is stupid, and very small. The quads are much better in my opinion. @AXG: I took a tour of one of the RA's room and the size was big and she kept it clean. I will be rooming with one of my friends there. The only negative thing I hear about it is that the dumpster will overflow. I have a friend that lives there and he said they throw parties from time to time and the RA's don't care
Of course they showed you the "clean" apartments. If they showed you the filthy ones, nobody would move there. I signed my lease kinda late so I didn't have a choice of which room to pick. Of course, the RA's don't care. They don't care about anything. If there is ever a problem, you're basically on your own.
BACK IN MY DAY, WE LIVED IN THE QUADS AND WE LIKED IT Class of 2007, Econ and PolSci. Having a great time at A&M for grad school right now, but I miss the diversity. And Frenchy's.
So the maintenance sucks there? My friend just signed his lease so we're getting a pretty good room choice
I'm currently working on my worthless BA in Literature. The Creative Writing / English programs at UH are very highly ranked. Most of the people I meet who are in the English department are intelligent as opposed to all stupid people who just major in Communications. I've enjoyed my time there. Yes, the girls are ugly and a lot of the people are dumb. But nevertheless, Go Coogs.
There are probably a lot more UH people than you think; I went there and accept that it was probably the best place for me in particular, but I always maintain a genuinely balanced outlook when describing the school to others. I never felt the need to defend it or aggressively knock down other places with any real sincerity. I'm probably just as mean to trash-talking UH guys as I am to the one or two Rice guys who give a spit about their sports program. I live in the midwest, but I work for a gas pipeline so there are a few U of H guys here and with some of our customers, and after talking a while the one thing we always agree on is that it's "convenient."
Good thing about the English dept is the high ratio of grad students teaching freshman/sophomore classes: most attractive instructors of my time there. I was a finance major with an African Studies minor, and lived on campus, so the rest of it looked like the cast of Romeo Must Die.
Bowl of Gumbo at two-o-clock in the damn morning in the middle of Tropical Storm Allison! Actual quote: "Ain't no hurricane gon' keep a brotha' from gettin' is eat on."
