We REALLY need to sign Rick Adelman to an extension. That he hasn't been signed to one already is absurd. As others have said, maybe Less is bored. Perhaps he wants to get a young, unproven, and CHEAP coach, instead of the superb, future Hall of Fame coach we have, a coach who has managed to field winning teams the last 3 seasons prior to this one, setting records in the process, despite having his superstar players out for extended periods of time (that's putting it mildly) since his tenure began. We have had competitive and exciting teams to watch, even when Adelman has been dealt countless injuries and a huge turnover in personel. I honestly don't know or understand why Coach Rick hasn't been given an extension already. Frankly, I find it bizarre, just as bizarre as those here who call for his head after every loss, and praise him after every victory. I hope Les Alexander and Morey take care of this blunder post haste. Like yeasterday. This is beyond rediculous.

I want a young hungry coach that will teach defense, coach with fire and develop our young men.

No offense to Rick but he needs to go to a contender and get his ring. We are on two different paths.

If only Shane Battier could coach next season... Player coach?...

Either way I am happy. I'd rather keep RA, but if we do go with a new coach a young gun sounds like the way to go. Would Morey be interested in being a GM/Coach hybrid?...

The feeling I've gotten from this season is that RA and the FO are completely not on the same page. Some of the things that enforces this opinion are:

    - You have DM saying things like T-Will has All-Star potential, while RA would rather play garbage players in front of him.
    - The trade of Battier and AB by DM made RA very upset and inspired remarks of "non-basketball decisions"
    - The only way it seems for the FO to push RA to actively play younger players instead of letting them sit on the bench is to trade away veterans
    - While RA is typically clueless and sleepy during the games, he seems even worse this year.

You are insinuating that Morey is a moneyball GM. Just because Morey likes to operate in a moneyball mindset doesn't mean he is a moneyball pick. Would a moneyball owner pick Morey? This thread is dedicated to the notion of picking up a clone to Daryl Morey, and not necessarily a moneyball coach. The two threads are different...

I thought about that as well, but I think Morey/Alexander will ultimately go with someone who has slightly more (NBA) experience.

    Mike Budenholzer/Brian Shaw.

Isn't that what I said? I am one of those who actually wants RA to NOT come back to the Rockets. There are just too many moments during games that have made me wonder if RA is still senile.

I think Morey wants a coach who he can work with. When he has his data that says this combination play best together. He wants the coach to listen to him more. My opinion is Adelman could care less about all of Morey's data. And the truth, all of the data that Morey has couldn't get the offense to gel the way it is under Adelman. I new coach will have a hard time matching that. But there is also something to Adelman having too much loyalty to some of his players and keeping them in rotations longer than he probably should have.

So I'm open to seeing what Morey pulls out of his magic hat for a new head coach. I do think it's fair to give him a complete opportunity and see what he does. When this team is his coach. his players and his data. ANd then see what happens. He deserves than and looks like Les is giving him the keys to the rocket truck. Next year it's all on Morey. Barring injury anything less than a significant improvement is firing results IMO. When you get what you want you got to produce. Nothing less.

Hate to break it to ya but when you lose your franchise player due to injury and can't trade him for anything of value, you automatically get another 3 years to rebuild, at least.

The question with a new and successful coach is staying power. Thibs may well have it. Kuester couldn't get in the game. Similarly respected assistants. But, reasonable question.

I stick with the IF no RA then Elston Turner is the man. And the answer to your question IMHO.

Different era. Coach K may be today's sole exception.

Adelman was Morey's pick. He was Morey's first decision as a full time GM.

I'd have to say its a risky shot, and not one the rockets would take if they decided to can adelman. Lets hope it doesn't get to t hat point.
