The Simpsons were great at their peak but now I have to go with Family Guy.

I haven't watched the Simpsons regularly in almost ten years, but I have to say that it was a far better show than Family Guy. The peak for the Simpsons was much longer and flat out better than the peak for Family Guy. I also appreciate the fact that when I think back on all my favorite Simpsons moments, I can always remember which episode they came from. With Family Guy that's just not possible because the jokes almost never have anything to do with the story.

Simpsons. They manage the bouncy, witty comedy while still keeping the joeks constrained within a plot.

Family Guy overuses the "like that time when . . . " flashbacks wayy too much.

Family Guy can be very funny, but I always find myself flipping the channel at commercial break, while Simpsons I watch to the end.

Family Guy was better at getting cheap laughs. That's about it.

Both shows have jumped the shark and The Simpsons have circled back and jumped the shark a few times.

 ¡Ay, ay, ay!! ¡Un burro amoroso!

    Definitely The Simpsons.

The Simpsons Movie sort of re-vindicated them.

At its peak, Family Guy was funnier. Like, so funny I would laugh until I nearly pooped my pants.

However, the Simpsons maintained a very high level for a solid decade. And only rarely used pop culture references to get a laugh.

In the eyes of history, the Simpsons will remain funny to even our children, while Family Guy will not age very well.

while the first few season's of family guy were damn funny, they didn't contain 1/10th the wit or cleverness that the simpsons did in years 3-8 or 9.

cant say i've watched a newer episode of either show in years, though. they could have pulled the plug on the simpsons a decade ago and no one would've missed it. and family guy has basically been the same joke repeated ad naseum for the past several years.

I would put The Simpsons up against ANY other TV show not just cartoons.

Just between those two, I would go with Family Guy.

Never been much of a simpson's fan.

The Simpsons. No contest here. Hell, I think even Seth McFarlane would agree with me here. The Simpsons made shows like family guy possible, and even today they are still somewhat relevant and funny.

Seriously, seasons 3-8 of the Simpsons was possibly the greatest run of any TV show in the history of television. Every single episode was a classic. Literally, if you were in your formative years during those seasons, you can relate any moment that happened in your life with an episode of the Simpsons. It's one of the few shows that spoke across generations at a time, and I just don't think that can ever be taken away from them.

Yes. Simpsons season 4 was by far the best tv ever put on air in any genre, and, yes, I am including moon landing, etc.

I still think the new Simpsons gets more hate than it deserves. It is still funny and I still watch it every week.

I disagree. They used pop culture references a lot however when they did it was more memorable.

Have to take simpson's seasons 3-9.

although there could be a case for

king of the hill seasons 1-4
    Home movies entire series
harvey birdman attorney at law entire series
    Venture brothers season 1-2
aqua teen hunger force season 1-4

as the greatest adult cartoons ever

Family guy and american dad only had two real golden seasons.....

They used them, but they didn't *rely* on them.

    It never carried the show/humor.
