New era, different position, and honestly the "Dream Shake" is a combination of fake-post moves which anyone can execute...unless there is specific evidence Rondo learned or imitated Hakeem I doubt anyone can make an honest claim he is the reason for the moves.

Frankly he is doin what a guard should do, which is what makes Hakeem's move set so special...because someone his size shouldnt do that.

He does use the dream spin move well, but that behind the back fake he does, he travels almost every time. Blow a freakin whistle.

    I hate the celtics

It's odd that people make a video about Rondo's ability to score when he sucks at it. If he could shoot a decent percentage on his jumpers he would be a much better player.

    Oh, you mean this one?

Just let him have a little spotlight. I as much as anyone understand and appreciate what Dream contributed to ball fakes, but he doesn't need to be mentioned in every sentence.

Hakeem didn't invent the ball fake, just like he didn't invent the baseline turnaround jumper.

Just because he used it really effectively and schooled a lot of people doesn't mean he should get credit for it every single time someone does it.

Of course Hakeem didn't invent the ball fake, just like how Jordan wasn't the one who invented the fade away jumpshot. However, Hakeem, mastered and perfected the ball fake, just like how Jordan mastered and perfected the fadeaway.

Whenever someone thinks of a fadeaway jumpshot, they don't think Oscar Robertson, they think Jordan.

Whenever Rondo does a ball fake, every one thinks the Dream, not anyone else.

I'm sure if anyone asks Rondo about his ball fakes, he'll credit Hakeem.

Rondo is a good kid, I'm sure he'd talk about the Dream, and I'm sure that's where he learned it from but as someone else posted above, when anybody does a sick fadeaway the NBA makes some highlight video saying Jordan-like fadeaway or this or that but when someone does the ball fake that Dream did his whole career which led him to two consecutive championships and the hall of fame, his name is not even mentioned.

    I think Kobe's got a case with his "pump-fake-step-through-off-the-backboard"

And I think there's at least one more, but I can find it...
Anyway, reason I think that should be his patented move is that while other players have done it, he's the only one who's done it in a serious game scenario with consistency...And the guy's footwork is just phenomenal.

Right before Hakeem entered the league there was a player named Kevin McHale who mastered the spin move. The big difference though was that he looked very awkward doing it compared to the grace and fluidity of Hakeem.

Eatin crow here... but that really pisses me off. I'm one of the younger posters of clutchfans, and I did my homework, and I watched hours of Hakeem footage. I pay respect to him because he is the basketball God here. **** Rondo.

Why is Rondo obligated to have watched Hakeem? And why should he give credit to a guy who plays a different position and didn't influence him?

We associate those moves with Hakeem because it was so unique to see a center show guard-like creativity and quickness. Guards with great agility, creativity, and huge hands can also do those kind of moves independent of studying Olajuwon's play. Jordan would spontaneously come up with Dream Shake like moves just in the flow of competition, and as I recall Hakeem marveled about it in his autobiography.

Because saying that he never watched hakeem play, or a hakeem highlight, or a hakeem video is ridiculous.

Is it required by law that every NBA player has to watch Hakeem highlights.

this entire thread is ridiculous. The guy made some good plays (though he traveled half the time). No, Hakeem shouldn't be mentioned... I don't think of Hakeem when I see a guard penetrate off a pick using his quicks and use a fake on a big man shot blocker to get his shot off. Hakeem did it off the post. As a big man.

And even if I did think of Hakeem, it doesn't mean the entire world has to.

And why does Rondo have to have watched Hakeem? I really don't get it..

It's not that he doesn't watch Hakeem but it seems disrespectful to call it the Rondo Shake. Like no one has ever done it before. I know people did it before Hakeem but Hakeem mastered it. Now Rondo is getting good at it so it's the Rondo Shake? And yeah I agree the pass fakes were travels I guess the rules don't matter as long as you do something flashy.
