I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I think he cut a sex scene out to secure the pg-13 rating. Or originally they asked him to cut it down, but it came off like the girl was being taken advantage of, or something.
Solid movie, walked in with low expectations, but was entertained. For the record I think Zach Snyder is overrated, but did a solid job with this.
I watched this movie in an extreme digital theatre, with low expectations and was surprised! How did a movie like this get such low ratings? I feel it was an above average movie. The Snyder's style of movie making is brilliant, but very different, I think the step away from norm doesn't digest well with people. Beautifully created worlds, excellent fight sequences, good soundtrack, very artistic movie. Not extremely "Heavy on story-character develpoment", but there is a path with some unexpected moments. You just can't compare this with others in that sense, afterall its about ones mind /fantasy dream world that doesn't have to make sense, yet we do it anyways. Perhaps the only thing i didn't like was the very very very end...
Spoiler The life message of "u have all the weapons you need in life"? I felt the same, kind of cheesy, but others will take that as a positive note. also agree about the music, lots of remakes that make it more badass in the movie.
That's similar to my buddy's reaction after seeing the film. He said he was actually bored during the fight scenes because there was no suspense. You knew they weren't really in danger. The girl was hit through walls etc, and just gets up.
I really didn't like the fact that everytime she faced an obstacle her imagination would take over and illustrate the war she embarking on to get out of there. Wish they would have shown her dancing at least ONCE. Just a question about the ending. Spoiler Was it Blue that forged the signatures for the lobotomy?
Sorry for the double post but I will say that I went in with low expectations and was pretty entertained. Great visualization and pretty good entertaining movie. I'm sure it'll look great on Blu Ray.
Not going to rush out and watch this; A lot of critics are demolishing this movie right now saying it's a 13 year old's wet dream. Spill.com, where I go for a somewhat "regular guy' review, gave it a "F**k You". Looks like this movie is going to turn out to be as polarizing as Transformers 2. Heard the movie bastardized some great songs for the soundtrack too. Now I just want to watch to see how truly bad it is.
I also thought the low ratings were not justified. It was pretty entertaining and all the girls save for vanessa h. were pretty hot. Don't understand the deal with her, sorry kam.
Actually it is an overproduced b**** slap. With fantasy dragons mixed in and probably far less gritty.
I thought it was good and worth the price of admission but I thought the cover songs to some classics were horrible. I do wish they would show her dancing at least once and would have shown her actual battles in the asylum. That would have killed the ending twist though.
Yeah I'm curious to see how this turns out, I'm getting a little old and been watching a lot of Sergio Leone spaghetti western and the Charles Bronson Death Wish series a lot lately.. I like my action movies from the 70's for some reason...
I saw this sh_t last night. There's a reason why this garbage is coming in second at the box office and may not crack $20 million. It's because the story is piece of nonsensical sh-t. The premise: we're going into the mind of an abused mentally ill girl and find out that she fantasizes like a 15yr old boy. Fanboy Adonis Zach Snyder is a piss poor writer still riding on the success of one movie. There's a reason Amanda Seyfried and Emma Stone passed on this crap. As for the visuals, it looks like a bad video game with strippers. Except the strippers don't dance. I wouldn't be suprised if the Warner exec who ok'd the "Man of Slo-Mo" for the Superman Reboot is fired Monday morning.
Won't see it until next week but from the reviews I've been reading, not just here, this seems like an acquired taste for sure. He was aiming at a certain demographic and got it but I wouldn't expect it to be huge success for that very reason. Also looks like the studio gave Snyder a chance to write his own stuff with his past success but don't know how much more of that will see, studios want to make money too.
Spoiler Showing the lobotomy before the alt reality hamstrung the film for me. It didn't help that I am still not sure of the point of having the 2nd reality in the film at all. Why not just have the real and 3rd reality? That 'reveal' of the reality mirroring the 2nd reality doesn't really get me excited, because i assumed the 2nd reality was mirroring the real reality from the beginning of the 2nd reality. We knew the 2nd reality wasn't real, and had to assume as it was happening that it was a 'twisted' flashback of what really happened. (at least, that was my thought during the film. I haven't come to a better hypothesis since then.) So, the film is a recreation from the perspective of a crazy person who then gets even crazier everytime she does a burlesque dance in her mind, so we don't actually get to see what they do as they're doing it. We do learn that the 'main character' is a bad shot. I loved the action in the 3rd reality though from an eye-candy perspective - although, i liked the first battle more than any others shown. big wig "Does the main character really become a vegetable? The audience isn't going to like that..." Snyder "no, she's not really the main character, sweet pea is the one the story is really about. The audience will love the sacrifice of Baby. Tt is a great way to rectify baby killing her sister, and rocket dying for sweet pea" big wig "wait, the character we don't see much... the story is about her?" Snyder "errmm... umm... no, i'm tearing the 4th wall down, it is about you!" big wig, "brilliant!" Snyder "ooo ooo, and there is going to be some deus ex machina action, with an angel saving sweet pea. this is going to be great." i doubt any of this made rant sense. the movie annoyed me. oh, and hudgens is ****ing terrible. and was that really the girl from real world? she is an actress?
the trailer showed 4-5 barely clothed girls shooting guns... did you morons expect depth, oscar performances, and shutter island-esque twist? i paid 8.50 for the movie, 4.25 for the dr pepper, and i was satisfied for 120 minutes
I haven't seen the movie and am not really planning on it but from what I am hearing it sounds sort of like a gamers version of the movie Brazil.
