    Excellent point. I never thought about that. I wonder if Martin planned it that way when developing his form, or just realized later.

    It's analogous to a Change Up in baseball, in the sense that they are essentially fake fastballs. They have to look like a fastball to be successful.

    Fair points overall. What sets KMart apart to me though is his ability to draw fouls and his extremely high FT rate. Allen comes and goes with the wind, one moment he'll shoot 1-12, but then he'll go off for 9 straight 3's when the game is on the line. Kmart isn't as explosive, however his fts make his valleys less detrimental to the team. I remember one game where he went like 5-15 and everybody was complaining about him shooting us out of the game. Nobody bothered to check that he added 7 pts off fts, which in effect made his FG% a little above 50% (18 pts/15 shots), which is actually pretty high for a guard.

    Read the last two lines closely so you can understand his post better.

    Don't waste your time. If there's more than two line breaks, some posters simply can't be bothered to read an entire post.

    Doesn't everyone try to make their shot fake look like their shot? I guess some succeed more than others.

    The thing about Martin's motion is that it starts kind of low (and to the side/front of the body) but is a very quick motion and doesn't involve a lot of jumping. Defenders get excited about his initial move and react right away because he launches quickly and accurately, this reaction helps Martin bait his defenders better than most shooters.

    Strange. It IS gone. I can only assume that Kevin Martin force them to take it down because he doesn't want to share all of his secrets.

    U Mad.

    Girly? He does what he can to get points. He doesn't cheat, or use underhanded tactics.

    No one said Kevin was a "superstar." Martin draws a foul and creates efficient offense. How is this girly? The foul is just icing on top of the cake. Not only do you go to the foul line, but someone also fouls you? That one foul could mean a lot at the end of the game, regardless if it is on someone like LeBron James, or someone like Mario Chalmers.

    It's kind of too elaborate a satire for the context at hand... ;)

    This is a KMart lauding thread, after all. Hehe.

    A few more K-Mart stats via the camera system the Rockets use:
    [rquoter]In 31 tracked games this season Kevin Martin has been an efficient scorer, averaging .45 points per touch on 50.9 touches and 22.7 points per game.

    SportVU Hoops enables STATS to dive deeper into Kevin Martin’s performance:

    * In 77% of Martin’s touches he uses less than two dribbles, averaging 1.7 per touch.
    * When Martin uses more than two dribbles hid field goal percentage drops from 44.4% to 40.9%.
    * Martin becomes less efficient the longer he holds the ball and 4 seconds appears to be his tipping point:
    -----> 0-2 seconds: 45.2%
    -----> 2-4 seconds: 46.8%
    -----> 4 seconds: 33.8%
    * Martin is only shooting 38.9% in all catch and shoot situations, but is shooting 40.9% in 3-point catch and shoot situations.
    * While averaging 2 minutes and 2 seconds of possession per game, Martin is averaging 6.4 touches per free throw attempt.
